hello friends,I live in india.I recently build a diy projector under 25k:yahoo:.
posting some pics.if it creates interest in somebody I will share theory,build method,parts sources and prices every detail.:D
I got the idea from various diy projector forums.







my wife is standing beside image.image size 80 inch diaognal.





all the image quality is not at its full potential as screen is only whitewashed wall witha blue tint.:p:p

Sadly , the lumenlabs forum seems to have gone dead. With commercial
projectors become affordable and easily available, the advantages outweigh going
the DIY route for a projector, except as an interesting experiment.
I have one too, lying almost unused because of it's bulk, esp as I used a
long throw lens which makes the cabinet bigger.

yah commercial projectors are being cheap but still a 720p will cost u at least 75k and the bulb cost is very high.but here cost is only 25k and bulb cost is 700 inr.
yes lumenlab is sadly dead.but this site is very very active and doing super results.u can sometimes try it.

this is the old fundamental.light source.fresnel.triplet.lcd.
only differenece is I am using a 10.1 true 720p lcd bare panel which is normally used in a good tablet along with a lcd tv controller board..having hdmi:licklips:,vga,composite,s video,cable tv,usb port...just like a lcd tv backboard connection board.
.instead of the conventional 15.4 inch lcd strip method.so results are much better than that.

great effort from your part congrats

a few questions tho
what is the projector size? dimensions
whats the throw distance
is there a seizable noise produced by your projector
and lastly whats the longest length of time the projector can be kept on before it heats up consideraby
 
I had built a DIY projector long time back using Lumenlab S15 kit using a 720p native panel and I had used it for some time till I bought another 720p native compact projector (5" lcd). Since then I am not using it and dismantled it and kept in the attic. If any body wanted to do it I am planning to sell it off including the panel and light kit (arrange them in a proper enclosure and the pj will be ready).
 
it is a huge box 16inch length...12 inch bredth....12 inch height..:mad:

present throw distance is around 9 ft...

yah there is noise created by small dc fans just like a pc/celing fan..but not audible while a movie is going on....

cont running....I tested 5 hours.no issues..... I am using 4 inlet fans and 4 outlet fans...hehe:D:D
since it is a diy design...heat is no problem as you design the ventilation and make box and holes as big as u want
 
The MH days are over ! Welcome the 1600lumen LEd lamps .
Why ? The led has loooong life as all knows .
**** Does not heat too much .
So DIY PJ will not look like chicken box .
It becomes work of art :

yah leds are very nice but a good led with driver and its own coolling system will cost 12k indian rupees.......so I opted for MH....2k total....
I will try led in my next project...
those leds on the above link are not worthy....cant compete with branded projectors....our motto is to match the outcome of diy project as a product on the shelf

if your DIY projector is not in the drawing room, or not visible to guests, you can reduce the number of fans by fitting a "chimney" directly above the MH lamp. I have used a 4 inch dia PVC pipe fitting, of about 6 inch long with only a single DC fan recycled from a desktop PC SMPS. A small one inch square hole is made at the bottom back, to let cool air in. No problem noticed for 2.5 hours continuous running, ( longest I used it). Although its looks ugly, it reduces light leakage, as there are not many holes on the PJ box, thus making the room pretty dark. The pipe acts as a chimney, accelerating the flow of hot air.

I did not tell 1600lumen is 12k:D..
also the 30w led link u sent needs a 35usd driver..total then 110 usd..and the first one link is toy led:D...not suitable for this project.
if you want result which can compete with branded projectors costing 70k inr.. u will need at at least 9000 lumen output 100w leds...which are 12k total with liquied cooling and driver.
this 1600 lumen leds will create results anyway...but not even close of a branded projector.:D
with 30w leds it will be a toy projector...we want to enjoy movies in our diy stuff ..not that for the sake of diy we are just diying it...
although just diy without a target is very joyful also.
but I am stating this specific case in this projector.
visit sometime heartzblaster's website..he is the GOD in led projector worldwide..U will easily learn and underswtand the led diy projector every detail

9000lumens ? god may be you are referring 3 -4 lakh ones

very nice catch kaushik,seems u r actually intersted in this stuff:)

yah heavy ht pjs costing around 1 lakh output is 2500 lumen at wall....

but in diy projector the leds I am reffereing has output of 9k lumen..between which 85% will be wasted as heat...the lcd will suck(no pun) the light...so ultimatly only 15 % of 9k lumen that is 1300 lumen will be transmitted(not sucked by lcd) thru lcd and ur actual output at wall.
some diy projector enthusiasts actually keep lightmeter:licklips: and test their result in terms of lumens.unfortunatly I dont have one.hehe

BTW - for the ebay LED modules, check out the colour temp and
colour rendering index (CRI). I think the ones Hertzblaster is using are better
suited for a PJ use.

For a LED PJ, short throw optics will have an advantage as the Intensity of
light (lux) varies inversely as the square of the distance.
 
wow good to see veteran diy pj makers like god,quad here......
kaushik you try this once.u will never regret..belive me..only problem of this diy is high cost...if you are ready to spend (since u already have a projector hehe)..you will enjoy the results.trust me friend.
