Hey everyone,
Wanted to share a quick DIY project I finished over the weekend. I've been meaning to tidy up the cable mess behind my rack and decided to roll my own RCA interconnects instead of buying pre-made ones.
I picked up a meter of Furutech FC-62 (75 Ohm Coaxial OFC) from theaudio.co. It's a solid cable for the price, decent shielding and easy to work with. For the ends, I used some gold plated RCA male solderign connectors I found online (the ones with the red/black rings for channel ID).
The Build:
I took the 1m length and cut it exactly in half to make a 0.5m pair. Perfect for a short run between the DAC and my amp without having loops of extra wire hangin everywhere.
A few notes from the bench:
The FC-62 has a nice thick jacket but it's still flexible enough for tight spaces.
Soldering the braided shield to the outer ground shell of these connectors was a bit finicky—had to make sure I didnt melt the inner insulation while getting enough heat into the connector body.
Measured everything with a multimetr after to make sure there werent any shorts.
Initial impressions? The background feels "blacker" (might be placebo, who knows lol) but the fit is super snug and it looks much cleaner than the generic cabls I was using before. Plus, there's just something satisfying about using gear you soldered yourself.
Anyone else using Furutech cable for their DIY? Would love to hear what connectors you guys prefer for these thicker cables.
