Why would 2 VU meters be needed per amp? It's not as if anyone is going to be using these for monitoring. 2 would just look way cool than 1 per amp but other than that...

yes two will do the taking slight differently and that adds to the real magic
one will be like one wheeled motorbike ,saves cost but no one likes it .
Got a pcb maker guy ..see some of the boards he delivered (this is not vu driver) glass epoxy i guess per board 45Rs or so in 20pc batches

Some info on the VU buffer adjustment :

1kHz sine wave at +4 dBu (1.228 Volts) On the the vu scale needle should read zero

we are not doing studio recording so that will do fine

FUN FACT #1: Notice the secondary scale below the -20 to +3 scale. This is a carry over from the old days when Radio Broadcasters used the meter. It represents Percent of Modulation. In order to have the loudest signal available to radio listeners, Broadcasters would try to keep their audio level near 100% modulation mark without going into the red and over-modulating the signal they were broadcasting.

Fitting LED is many fold process
-open the case and measure placement
-prepare short lead LEDs, clear LED with diffused front works best
I sand LEDs so the front light is uniformly diffused
outer part radiates clean yellow light and fills the case
- hot glue to case

- check FSD (fullscale defection on a test signal)
-once free movement ensured the case is closed fully (screws)

How much Light :
I a m supplying with 330E resistors notso intense -not dim glow , User can reduce or add 20-30ohms to do desired glow
LM317 led driver also they can use (be careful to start at low current)

I also love them true vintage scale and i like the glow after my diy fit ,will wait for your pics of complete build .
how you are driving?it is best to drive from AV lines unsing the buffer but speaker outs also can be used
with this very simple circuit http://www.giangrandi.ch/electronics/vu-meter/vu-meter.shtml(use 10k at last to protect them , they are 50uA)

And i always like to bring DIY items and see people get happy.

Care ful they need very little current 50uA
