Do CD-R damages the CD player

Hi,
I recently heard one technician advising that audio CDs recorded on CD-R damages the CD player itself. He advised to stick to original CDs only. Did some searches on internet but could not find anything on this.
Could some of HiFiVision members -- expert on this subject -- through some light?
 
Not so sure why would CD-R damage the player.
CDs with scratches , dust etc can cause problems to player.
 
The Replay of CDs in a CD player is a Non Contact process. Hence IMHO no 'damage' is possible.

To play a CD, a Laser's light is reflected off the CD surface and the reflections detected and converted to Digital bits and eventually sound.

The reflective surface of a CDR is far less ( about 70% less) reflective than a stamped CD.

You can see this by viewing a CDR and CD.

However, the intensity of the read laser is more than adequate to read CDRs. Its intensity is NOT changed whether it reads a CD or CDR. The different reflectivitys are easily accommodated by a Read laser in good condition.

However, as lasers grow old, their light output fall. Hence, beyond a point, the light reflected off a CDR is inadequate to read it properly, however that same, dull laser can read a normal CD.

Hence you will often observe that a dying CD player will not read a CDR but will read a CD .

The technician has probably .... In his mind interpreted that the CD player does more work to read a CDR ( since he will get dying CD players to fix ) and concluded that a CDR 'damages' a CD Player.
 
CD-/+R can't damage a CDP in any way unless it breaks inside while spinning.
Even a scratched CD+/-R would do no harm to the CDP.
Make sure not to play any cracked CD and you are safe.
