Greetings and salutations gurus!

Bit of a background information. Bought these speakers in 2008 possibly along with MS Avants. Till around the middle of last year the Wharfs were powered by a Denon 1909. Post that a CA540R was used.

As the subject says, one driver each of my Wharfdale Diamond 9.5 and 9CS are kaput. According to the dealer the drivers have to changed. He's not too sure of the price, said around 5/6k.

Now, the dilema is:
1. Get the drivers replaced and continue with those
2. Sell these "as is where is basis"
3. Get drivers of different make and then sell with full disclosure obviously!

If I get the drivers replaced, would these sound the same after proper burning in? If two can go kaput, whats stopping the others to give up?

So, I've kind of decided to get rid of these..

Meanwhile, I sold off the CA540R. Got a Denon 2113. Wanted the CA551R but that was beyond budget. And, sometime in the future I intend to get a stereo amplifier. So, with the 2113 what speakers are recomended? I liked the Denon and Wharf combo but now I don't think I'll go for a Wharf.
Budget is around60 give or take. Preferably more take than give:p

Sorry for the long rant!

Replacing with original drivers is the best way to go ahead. After proper burn in they should sound identical.

+1 to replace with only original drivers, the cabinet is specifically designed with the drivers in mind,so not advised to change with another drivers.

Replace with original drivers obviously. Also find out whether the cone or the actual driver itself is kaput.

Also plenty of DIY guys in our forum who can advise how to check the above. Try to get the drivers replaced by scouting the net. I am sure you will find good deals in the net.

Replacing the entire driver is anyway not rocket science which I am sure you can do yourself.

Some pictures for your reference

Greetings

Home is doubtful for replacement driver. Kaput drivers can be a whole range of problems-voice coils, surrounds, etc, worth checking to diagnose what exactly is the issue.

Oh dear. Maybe its best if I count my losses and move on? What if the other drivers start failing subsequently?

I'm visiting a Wharf dealer today and see what could be done. i guess the dealer I bought from isn't stocking Wharfs any more. They are not listed as Designer Audio dealers.

Looks like the surround on those speakers is gone bad. You may not have to replace entire drive, just replace the surrounds. Google and you will find videos on how to do it.

Thanks for all the suggestions dear FMs. But, I've decided to get a new setup. Hope you all would chip in with suggestions wrt to my new kit!

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
