I had the opportunity to tweak and play a TW8000 projector in my system. Here is my mini review without getting too technical with specs. This is a projector I bought for a relative of mine for his new HT, and wanted to make sure that it was working fine. I just tested the 2d, so no comments about 3d. I Used Blu-ray discs on my oppo83 and media files from my media player. My comments are in comparison to my 2 yr old 8350.
1. Black Levels - Superb! The letterbox bars were black, whereas with the 8350 they sometimes appear grayish.
2. Contrast ratio - Simply amazing - in standard 2d mode I could feel the 3d depth, the picture popped off the screen so well.
3. Color saturation - Slightly better than the 8350, not a great leap forward IMO.
4. Brightness level - Just great, but I would feel that in HT's where the user is sitting at or under 15 feet it may be better to use a low gain screen. My elite gray screen worked very well from 14', but a white screen may be uncomfortably bright.
5. Lens adjustment - Excellent - Horizontal, vertical and my favorite - keystone.
6. Noise level - Negligible, lower than my 8350 which at 22db in low power mode is quite low - excellent.
All in all another superb product from Epson. I will probably keep my 8350 though for now, and wait till the next series of projectors from Epson. Note how boxy the 8350 looks next to the sleek 8000 though.
Cheers,
Sid

Thanx for the nice write-up bro.If only you could compare the TW8000 with a TW6000....or will the 6000 be similar to the 8350?

Not too sure about the 6000 Imranh. That is the problem of buying projectors in India, not many dealers around who will make the investment to compare various models side by side so the consumer can make an informed decision. Hopefully other Fm's with a 6000 can pitch in.

Hi sidvee,
This is Sanjay from delhi. did the Epson guys give you a demo of TW8000 first or you just bought it and them made the comparision.
I am planning to buy one as my home theater will be built in six months(new construction going on) so before that I wish to freeze on all the things- screen, projector, amplifier, speakers etc.
I need to see the Projector before making a decision.
I am planning to have an acoustically Transparent Screen.
regards,
Sanjay Sachdeva

It is always better to take a demo from the showroom who has multi brand of projectors because this way one can do a true comparison.

In every one or two years, the new projector which comes will often look much better etc then the earlier one therefore one can not keep considering to buy a new projector every now and then.

According to me a new projector should be considered once we have at least run it's full bulb life.

The total was 1.49 lacs with a second pair of 3d glasses. My company deals with Epson - mainly conference projectors, so I got it through them.
Cheers,
Sid

hello sidvee - in your old thread you had mentioned that your company deals with EPSON- Can you for the benefit of the forum members check TW 8100 price ?
We have started a thread to buy TW8100. We have a couple of member interested.:clapping:

I now agree with the same. Earlier, I used to advice buying extra bulbs for old projectors. But now I also feel that old projectors should be abandoned after every 2 years or so.
