Anybody else hear anything about this?

The Flyte store is up now. It was available off and on all day. It is accessible from the main Flipkart website. I've taken a screenshot:

The good thing is that the songs are DRM free. They do deserve thanks for that. Also most of the library is MP3 in 320kbps. Which is good for those who buy music in MP3.

Also it seems each file (song) can be re-downloaded 3 times only. Fair enough, I guess (the buyer should be backing up the first download properly anyway).

So they do have a variant of DRM - this is not good. They sound like Apple with regards to copying. I would like to own songs that I buy fully, i.e., unlimited downloads, unlimited copies, unlimited devices transfers...

^^ My understanding is that:

You do own the song you buy. You can download it and do with it what you want. Use it on any device, back it up onto as many HDDs as you want, and use it with any software that plays mp3.

If you happen to lose the file you downloaded, or if you don't have access to the file with you, say while you are travelling, and you want it right then, you can download it again from Flipkart. And again then do with it as you like. You can do this 3 times (in addition to the time you downloaded it after you bought it).

If what I described is right (I think it is), there is no DRM.

You can make unlimited copies and transfer to unlimited number of devices....

This limit seems completely reasonable. This does not impact normal users, you download it once and copy to all your devices.

If you lose the copy you can download again couple of times.

Three downloads seems generous to me.

You can't get a damaged vinyl or CD replaced, not even once!

Each song we can download 4 times. 320 kbps files are almost 10-20MB in size for most of the hindi songs I selected.

Unfortunately tags are missing for many of the songs, that is quite disappointing.

Now they have added Tags to collection. I received a mail from flipcart apologizing about missing tags. They reset my download count to download the songs again.

Hope we too will have an online store with great support as we experience from Amazon.

They have sent the mail to me too. Their 320 Kpbs songs are pretty decent in SQ, except for some songs which are available only in 128 Kbps. You can also select a lesser bitrate if needed, for all songs. They have a free downloadable software to maintain our own song library which is very convenient. :clapping:
