Hi Experts,

I am planning to build a Home theatre.

Need your advice to buy really good speaker system and AV Receiver which supports 1.4a HDMI (for 3d support to my Tv). My room size is around 10*50 in my flat. The price should not exceed 1 lac. I will be using the system mostly for movies and rarely for music.

I had been keeping a watch on the forum threads for few weeks now. I saw people discussing on AV Receivers like Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo, Harmon/Kardon and speakers like Polk Audio, KEF, ProFx, Bose etc.

Please help me decide which one to buy and where in Bangalore.

Your room is 500 square feet? You need a very powerful AVR for that size.

HDMI 1.4a will be available only in the new models that are being release this year. If this is a do or die criterion, you may have to wait till October/November before the models are available in India.

Cheers

These are HTiBs. if you are happy with them, there are no issues.

For a 500 square feet room, you would need an amp that can generate between 100 to 150 watts per channel at least. A lot depends upon your seating arrangement, how far you for from the screen, and what is your level of amplitude 'thirst'. People like Subhash, Santhosh, and Manu, for example, like powerful amplifiers.

Cheers

About the AV receiver, I would like to say that first check the amplifier's impedance rating which is measured in ohm.The amplifier provides power to the AV receiver. The general rating is about 4 ohm. Due to more impedance rating your loudspeaker can be overheated. :)

Onkyo HT-S5300 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver HTR-580 has 160 W/Ch at 6 Ohms, 1 kHz, 1 Channel Driven.

I will try to get an audition to this HTiB next week and decide.

5300 HTiB costs about 50K..

with your budget of 1 lakh, you can find even better HT system with separate AVR and speaker system.

I hand this over to our speaker specialist Suri for his comments.

I will wait for the other experts to suggest about good speakers. For AVR's with HDMI 1.4a i will have to wait to get in bangalore like Pioneer VSX-820-K [ VSX-820-K ]
