Dear All,

After going through hifivision for several months ,reading all reviews ,some how i made my mind to purchase first onkyo receiver.

Got it from Dubai ,i stay in Tanzania ,agent called me he will deliver anytime now, will install on Saturday or Sunday.

Need some inputs from experienced members regarding connecting my exsisting speakers and NR-609.

I need some clarification about the speakers and power amplifier ,i got Onkyo NR-609 ,which has got power outputs ,100 Watts per Channel at 8 Ohms, 20 Hz?20 kHz, 0.08%, 2 Channels Driven, FTC; 125 Watts per Channel at 6 Ohms, 1 kHz, 0.1%, 2 Channels Driven, FTC.

and i have old SONY MHC-RV900 5.0 speaker which i am going to use it with onkyo NR-609 ,specs of the speakers as follows.
The following measured at ac 120,127.220,240 Volts 50/60 HZ

Continues RMS Power output (reference)

Front Speakers 100 + 100 Wats (6 Oms at 1 kHz,10% THD)
Center Spaker 40 Watts ( 8 ohms at 1 kHz 10 % THD)
Rear Speakers 40 +40 Watts (6 Ohms at 1 kHz 10 % TSD).

If any suggestions most welcome ,which will help in fine tuning and setting up the receiver.

Thank you.

Hi guys,

am getting problem with connections please help.

1. CRT
2.Playon with HDMI
3.Onkyo NR-609.

am not getting display on crt.

Sunil

Check your connections of the CRT with Onkyo. And then switch on the appropriate mode on the 609 via remote.

Hi snorkel4u,

I have connected CRT to 609 monitor out ,and htmi from play on to hdmi-1 on 609.
may be am doing something wrong configuring input/output on the av receiver.
after checking all connections i don't see picture on tv at all ,am not sure whats going wrong.
need inputs from onkyo SR-608 Owners and any one who may experienced this problem.

Regards
Sunil

Am not sure whether the avr can take Digital In and output via Analog....it can do the reverse, but not sure whether this is possible.

Also, whats the maximum resolution supported by ur CRT?Do u get any message in ur CRT or it just remains black?Maybe the AVR is forcing 1080p output which ur CRT won't be supporting.

^^can't access the link, but doenst matter....

U havent answered my other queries yet....i think the problem might be resolution conflict between the avr and ur crt.

Go to AVR setup-->In/Out Assignment-->Monitor Out(the first option itself for 608) and u should be able to change the output resolution there. Is set to 1080p by default, try changing it to 'Auto' or '480p/576p' as per ur CRT and lemme know.

Regards

hey Sunil .forgot to ask .did you get the Onkyo UWf1 wifi adapter with it or you have to order seperately to get wifi on .
thanks

Sunil,

Not sure if this helps you, but just an observation - I had a similar problem too with my Onkyo3300.
I had below set-up:

BDP --> HDMI --> AVR
BDP --> RCA cable (Yellow, for video) --> CRT TV (has no HDMI input/output)
OR
AVR --> RCA cable (Yellow, for video) --> CRT TV (has no HDMI input/output)

In either case, there was no display on the TV (There was a message on TV indicating that video format was not supported).
I then just disconnected the HDMI cable and with that video was displayed on TV. With this change, I had to use RCA cables for audio connections between AVR and BDP instead of HDMI.
I guess HDMI is what is causing this issue.
You may try using any other cable instead of using HDMI to connect your play-on
OR
connect all the devices using different HDMI cables and see if it helps

@Imrahn
Yes i have already checked res and configured least res 480p/576p' and tried auto also.

Hi Gyus,

Thanks for all you suggesstions.

Yesterday i had time gone through the manual and connecting accordingly,i was doing mistake in/out configuration.

now from play component out to 609 comp in ,from 609 comp out to tv comp in.i can see picture now this carries only picture.

now i don't have sound which suppose to be connected ,as i can see i have only two option either digital in to 609 from play on digital out.

My question is there any way i can connect from play on ,
available ports on play on.

1.hdmi 2.component 3.Video L/R 4.Digital out

one clarification ,with component out from playon to 609,can i use hdmi to get sound (i have only CRT ) or i have to go for digi out from play there is no other choice.

Sunil, since you are using a CRT, you cannot use HDMI at all. You have to use component/composite all the way. From your source to your receiver to your TV. This is for video.

For getting sound, you have to connect a digital cable such as coaxial/optical from your your source (such as DVD Player) to your receiver.

In the 609, you to to set the input accordingly. Remember to set off all HDMI connections. For video use, set component or composite input depending upon which one you have used. For audio set optical or coaxial, again depending upon which one you have used.

Cheers

Imrahn,

thanks imrahn for the suggestion but it looks only two option in audio selection digi and coax ,i need to connect with anyone of them.

Thanks Venkat ,

am going out to check for optical cable let me see if i get one then will connect and update.

Sunil

Thanks to Imrahn ,Venkat ,kittu and other members who suggested for resolving problem.

After getting digital cable i was able to get the audio.
i got the 16 SWG cable am not sure ,that makes difference to listening ,presently i just connected with old cable ,next weekend when i have time will setup properly all speakers and components with new cable will test .

as per at present setup ,i dont see much difference in audio with my old setup ,SONY HCD ,CRT and play on mini.
but for movies yes i can see the difference ,as there are lot of options available need some suggestions from members for fine tuning AVR to get best audio quality for movies.

find attached pictures.
