We're building a new home, so I want to wire the home with cable required for HD STB.

Can you please give the details of the wire that required to connect the Dish to the STB ( I am not asking about the HDMI Cable which connects STB And TV) .

How much length you will require? Above a certain length hdmi have problems in transmitting the signals and you will need really expensive cables.

I am not talking about the HDMI Cable which connects the Set-Top Box to TV.

I am referring to the cable which connects the Dish( Antenna) which resides on the Roof to the Set-Top Box.

OK, so you edited your last post. The coaxial cables are easily available in any electronics or dth stores. Get the required length.

@OP, Get good quality cables that are used by cable TV operators, from shops selling Cable TV items. They have thicker copper core than normal coaxials.

I've just got the cabling done in my new house. It's called RG6 cable and is available in electrical shops.
Search for thick variety.

I told the electrician to install the Cable required for the HD Set-Top Box.
But, he installed a cable looking like normal co-axial cable. And he says, there is no separate cable for HD STB.

Is that true, a Normal cable will be able to support HD Streams?

Anyway, I'll ask for the RG6 cable.
Thanks for giving a name for it.

Make provision for 2 cables at each point for HD DVR boxes. Best to refer to your local Dish guys on what cable to use.

Type of cable should not matter for SD/HD. You're using your same old copper telephone cable for high speed net, right?

As stated in a few replies above ... you need thick core cable. All are coaxial cables but to ensure best quality signal thick cables are needed. There is no special cable for HD-STB.

Electrician put the cable that comes for the normal SD DTH. Will that be a problem, Is there a name for the thicker version of this cable ?

Why we need 2 cables ??

Hey,..

The HD set top boxes need higher bandwidth to transmit & receive HD content and since normal co axial wont do they use two of those to split the bandwidth.. try checking the cable to see if its RG6.. should be written on the sides the regular cable used by local cable guys will do too.

You need normal coaxial cable for your wiring for the STB. Better the cable b you would be better future proof. You need two cable for DVRs(STB with Recorders) as those STBs have two tuner(to watch one and record another channel). Hope your query is clear.
