hdd for my nas ReadyNas NV+

NAS so far has been used mainly to store big data. Its only been in last few years that we have seen this coming down to home user to store relatively small amount of data.

There are very expensive disks that are used in these RAD arrays - and they work really well and are build with very high tolerances.

What WD red provides is a disk which has some of the featured in those high end disks, just like your NAS system, which has some of the features of those big NAS systems.

There will always be people who criticize. Most reviews you see would have praises for WD red disks. I have been using them (and its predecessors) for last few years and have not faced any problems so far.

Most disks which are not dead on arrival and do not fail in the first week of operation will last a long time. So do a good check of the disks. Make sure you check the disk for any read/write errors. If your smart tool throws an error, make sure you return the disk and get another one. There will always be disk failures - you just have to be prepared for them.

Cheers,

Saurabh
