Hello All

This is my first post.

I am going to setup a HT and I read a lot of posts from this forum. My budget is quite limited so I wanna use it smartly (max 50k).

I have a couple of questions that I am sure I'll find a answer to

1. Which is better budget receiver with good speakers or vice versa

2. Should I go for smart receivers (wifi etc) or buy a andriod box.

I was thinking to go with polk TL1600 and a budget receiver like pioneer 531 or yamaha 3067.
Other option marantz 1508 with yamaha 5,1 speaker package (expensive reciever n cheap speakers)

Also, please let me know a decent android box, my primary use is youtube, prime and 1tb HDD for movies.

Room size: 9*13 (tv on 13feet wall, 43inch lg FHD)
I live in an apartment so clarity is more important than high sound.

Hi

Welcome to HFV.

You can refer to threads under Home Theatre or What Should I buy which will guide you effectively....

The key is to audition the available systems with dealers around you...never rush to make a bad purchase which you will repent later....Trust your ears...hear and see systems available...use the same content for demo so as to draw a compare in your mind....make a list.

Pioneer / Denon / Marantz / Yamaha are all good AVRs ..besides the common features around performance, there is a signature difference in delivery of sound quality (Bright, Warm, Bold, etc) and also the right speaker pairing also matters (watts, impedance).

Share that list with us where we can then help you to narrow the same based on pro and cons ...including budget....

All the best!

thank you @efernand1

Yes, I live in Pune and will try to audition some of them (based on availability)

But I am looking for a generic answer (keeping in my mind ease of upgrade, quality etc) that if I have only 50k then should I invest more on AVR or speakers.

Options that I have
AVRs : Yamaha 3067, yamaha rx383, pioneer 330 etc (below 30k)
Speaker package : Yamaha 5.1, Polk TL1600, denon sys, jbl cinema.

other option : yamaha 2910 HTiB, Onkyo 3800 HTiB.

Hi

HtiB are entry level systems with basic speakers.......

Invest in a decent AVR.......Marantz is more warm and musical....Yamaha is a bit bright and works equal for movies and music......Pioneer and Denon are more inclined towards movies than music.....

For speakers set, the ones which can deliver maximum frequencies spectrum between 20hz to 20khz would be ideal....check the config of the speakers....Polk TL1600 seems to be good....Denon Sys are smaller and will perform to a certain level.....

Some package options (check the best rate and warranty available and decide)

Choose any 5.1 AVR + Taga Harmony TAV series 5.0 speaker package and add a sub-woofer later.. This would be a better offering than the HTIB packages you have listed..

1. Which is better budget receiver with good speakers or vice versa

Almost all brands have very similar features in the respective offerings.. Choose an AVR which can handle DTS-HD MA & Dolby True HD audio codec..

2. Should I go for smart receivers (wifi etc) or buy a andriod box.

Wi-fi is a good feature to have, if you like to play wirelessly from mobile.. But these features, might slightly push your budget..

Also, please let me know a decent android box, my primary use is youtube, prime and 1tb HDD for movies.

Given the Android TV Box pricing, there are too many models and difficult to recommend one.. Almost all Android TV boxes will play movies from 1 TB external HDD.. Choose a box that has atleast 2GB RAM & 16 GB ROM..

Please check youtube reviews of Android TV box to know the features that it offers..

Thanks @elangoas and @efernand1

So, I understand that dedicated AVR will be better.

Taga was my first choice but sadly my room is small and won't accommodate FS. wharfedale-dx-1 is too expensive for me.

I can see some good deals in HTstore : Denon 250BT/Yamaha 3067+jbl cinema 510

Another combo (idk will match or not) BA A23 + yamaha P51 (Centre+Surround)+Polk SW (11k+13k+12k) with yamaha 3067 (24k). Need advice for this combo please!!!

Hello,
I'll suggest you to go this newer AVRs like Marantz 1508 (33k on hifimart) or yamaha rx-v483 (35-36k) and then build your HT setup gradually. You can start with BA23 or A25.
In this way you will spend around 60-70k but will build a future proof system!!

Btw, Mr robot is really good series :p :)

Thanks @elangoas and @efernand1

Bostons are fine...so is the Yamaha in terms of center + surround.....sub check the frequencies......the more lower / closer to 20hz....will be better.....you can also look at Taga subs

Most of the budget subs have frequency around 35hz to 150hz :(

What is difference between denon 250BT and 540BT (as both are around same price of 35k).

Following are the additional features I could see based on Denon website on 550BT (compared to 250BT)
1. Calibration Mic and Calibration capability
2. Option for second subwoofer (250BT got only one subwoofer output)
3. Front Panel USB port
4. Support for Denon AVR Remote App
5. HDMI CEC / HDMI Control - which can be used to control some functions of AVR from TV Remote

I think i would need to go around 60k or more of proper setup

Fairly yes.. Make sure not to pick a subwoofer that is part of 5.1 package.. Best to choose AVR + 5.0 speakers within your aval budget first.. Later when you have budget, you can add a standalone sub, which would be better than the budget sub in 5.1 package..

Hi

See the specs of subs within your budget and accordingly make a short list.....look at design, size, type, output and most important is frequency...the more closer you are to 20hz. the better....Yamaha SW315 seems to be doing well besides Taga subs which would be within your budget...You can also consider Pioneer SW 51

thanks @efernand1 : I can see sayhifi is offer quite good price for denon x540bt. Is the site trustworthy?
@elangoas 12inch? won't it be overpowering for speakers and the room??

I have made a list, what do you guys think about this (approx price from some sites):
(BS, Surround, Centre, Sub)

Instead of the Polk sub....the Taga will be better....check if you can get Yamaha SW315......

Speakers are fine.....Profx usually ropes in 10% discount.....check with other dealers.....

Speak to Sayyed from MZ Audio (Bandra Mumbai)....he deals with both brands also and may rope in some discount.....(Reference : Eddie)
