Price/performance wise I believe the above two subwoofers should suit my requirements perfectly.

However I am unable to decide between the two... the SB12 is small, has high WAF and apparently does go low enough (20Hz)...

The PC12 is large, low WAF but goes lower and is apparently quite better than the SB12.

My use is going to be 70/30 movies/music. I do not expect to be playing too loud low - mid levels most of the time.

If you own one of them, what have been your experiences with it? Which would you recommend?

Becomes an negotiation between tighter sq/less bloom of the sealed box or the more spl/lower octaves capability of the ported cylinder ... other members will chime in and explain more in detail, but ive read very good things about the cylinder subs from svs too.

Less bloom - does this mean the bass is not boomy. I do not like boomy bass. I prefer tighter sharper bass. If the ported cylinder will tend towards boomy bass then SB12-NSD would be the one for me.

Can anyone comment on the bass quality of the PC12-NSD? Is it boomy?

I am currently on the lookout for either the SB 10 or SB 12. The PC is too big and I also want tight bass and the opinion in most of the forums is that the sealed boxes produce more sq. I would also like some user experiences on these subs from SVS. Further, I would also like to know which kind of i/p and o/p terminals are present in these subs as the picture is blurry so am not able to view the back panel very clearly.

See boomy is relative at this high end range of subwoofers. It might not be boomy like a cheaper subwoofer is.

But a sealed box does have its benefits in that department, google for sealed vs ported to learn more.

I believe sb10 is not even released yet. If you have updates on release info in India let me know.

As Audire sent me a price for this model so thought this must have been released. Well let me get back to them on this maybe then the SB 12.

I have finally decided to go for the SB12. I decided on this for three reasons,
1) All over the net the following was unanimous "... go for sealed subwoofers for better sound quality, faster and tighter bass. go for ported subwoofers for more bass vloume and more bass extension ..." Better sound quality always wins for me
2) My room is small, currently just the Dali Ikon 6 turn out gut shaking bass if I crank up the volume. I am sure the SB12 will be more than sufficient for me.
3) high wife acceptance factor :)

Now onwards to complete my HT setup -
1) good surround speakers
2) new AVR

Gautamz,

Hi ! I have been corresponding with audire too for the SB12. It looks good to me. However you are lucky in 1 respect - the WAF ( Wife Acceptance Factor ).

I am still on the long road to convince folks at home ( and sometimes myself ).

Lucky you !

:-))

good choice there gautamz....

i can speak about the pc 12 which i've had for 3 months. it's added a new dimension to my movies. it's being used solely for HT usage only and i had the space hence i went for the PC12.

your scenario seems like you're a little tight on space, and are also gonna use your setup for music and also including the WAF, i totally believe you have made the right choice by going for the SB12.

The SB12 should comfortably give atleast 70-80% performance of the PC12 for movies and at the same time be 20-30 % better than the PC12 for music.

So you have a Win-Win situation...!!!

Congrats and enjoy the SVS :)
