Goal - i am planing to build a music syatem for my home predominantly for music point of view. i do watch movies but thats not my priority. hence i am gonna buy 2 amps , one av reciever for movies and one stereo amp. as i cant build it full at a time. instead of buying a bad music system for my budget i wanna go for one thing at a time. and i wanna start with a pair of speakers (front left and right) and a DAC.

what i want - a Dac in india to be used with laptop and some times mobile in aprox price range of 10k inr. and pair of speakers bookshelf or floorstanding(if possible). in price range of 20k to 35k inr. i know budget is very low right now but i am a hude music lover (kinda my life) and due to lack of resourses and lack of awarness i was never able to do something. whatever little info i have is due to curiocity and internet.

how i am gonna use em right now - i am gonna use old parts of a sony home theatre system. its old and even when it was new never sounded good. may be it was created or big halls or people who want bang instead of clearity. i wanna use its av reciever and one of subwoofer. i know its not ideal but i have no choice. its av reciever model - sony str km5000. i was able to find very little specs about it. its 90 rms each channel in stereo at 6 ohm. and 185 rms output in surround. rest pecs i am attaching with this post. sub woofer model sony ss-msp5000 its 12 inches, 4 ohm, 150rms, frequency response unknown, active, ported, volume control but no way to adjust low pass. neither i know whats low pass set in it or its even set or not.

room - 10 feet * 15 feet .. fairly filled with furniture.

music - almost enjoy all genres. but i love stuff like mettalica, creed soad. in light norah jones. pop. lana del ray . never extream hard rock. but some times do listen to fun dance songs and instrumentals. i am not fan of loud bass at all. i like clearity of music but i like to feel a full range of frequency responce. so will use a subwoofer with speakers.

whats in my mind - speakers - yamaha ns 333, yamaha ns f160, polk audio rti a3, polk t50, elac debut 2.0 b5. (obviously more advices welcomed), Dac - schitt modi 3, kiio k3.

whats i am gonna buy next to it - stereo amp and subwoofer.

i live in gurgaon now for few months. born and raised in bhiwani haryana. any kind of advice welcomed. and even dealers , places and ways to buy.Untitled.png

Hi

Seems like you have a fair idea of what you want.....auditioning various brands and models is the key in shortlisting and making your own set. Trust your ears.

See the For Sale by Owner section and OLX,,,,lot of deals come in and disappear ...if you are on a tight budget and want the best....pre owned is the route as you can use...experiment for sometime and sell it later for something else.....

Once you have made up your mind and know what you want, slowly invest and build the system of your dream....most of us have done that over the past 10-20 years....not an easy journey...but if you are passionate, you will eventually get there!

All the best!

Thankyou for kind advice

Thank you all for reply..
I have to ask .. some bookshelf speakers have 5.5 inch woofer till 7 inches.. though there frequency range is almost same .. would it matter.. ? Is it so if i am using subwoofer with it i don't need low frequency. 5.5 will work just fine. Or its always better to get 3 way tower ..right from start to get fuller range ???

Hi have you seen speaker from dayton audio any time. They produced some finest speaker in the world. Even a 4" driver / bookshelf speakers can amaze you. I have a system with two 4 ft X 1ft X 1ft speaker box self made with dayton 6 inch woofer and 4 1/2 inch fullrange driving rod elliott P3A self made amp. And its rocking. I have compared it with various amp and system but p3a wins every time in detailing and dynamics of sound.

I have narrowed to
Q acoustic. 3020i
Yamaha ns 333
Polk rti a3
Elac debute 2.0 b5

These are all foreign companies and other than than Yamaha there are no service places nor any India website

So how i get warranty?. Or once i buy they cant be repaired??
So should i consider this factor too before buying??

Why don't u visit sound by design Gurgaon with your amplifier and make a choice ?

Or bass n treble

Strong recommendation - If you want to do this in steps/phases, don’t bother with a specialised DAC right now.
- Set aside most of the money for the best set of speakers you can buy
- Use your curent amp with the speakers for some time and then get a good Amp when you can
- Only after the above two should you look at upgrading the DAC

Add Dali Zensor 3 to your list, you can plan for a Marantz or Denon amp later.
thank you/// i am seriously considering dali zensor 3 .going for a demo soon

thank you after contacting many. sound by design is one who are giving me demo .thank you for advice.

If it matches your amplifier then New Old Pair will be at a better pricing..

I would not worry too much if you like the combo

One of dealer told me

That dali zensor 3 is discontinued and only old pieces are being sold.. ?? And replaced by opticon or oberon...
Is it true ???
Yup, replaced by Oberon. But, it is not as alarming as buying a phased out model of car or bike. Speakers usually don't develop problems for decades and many models are faced in 5-10 years.
Even the oberons would outlast the time it would be in the market. It is usually the drivers which becomes a challenge to source as spare. You should consider buying the latest models in AVRs. Speakers can be older models as well. I use a pair of Tannoys from 2006.they are no longer in market but sing the same way as they were 3 years ago.
You can try to bargain for discount and put the money in cables.

Yes i am going for same ... thank you

As FM @superczar mentioned, invest more on speakers and spend sometime with them connecting to your current amp and accordingly increase the no of components in the chain. Buying an External DAC is always a good thing, but add it after a few listening sessions with the new speakers. This way, you will know even the minute differences these electronics bring to the overall sound.

This is my opinion, i don't know if others disagree. A bigger woofer 5.5 inches or more, in a bigger cabinet though doesn't go as low as ~40hz, will have an impact on mids and highs. They tend to have flatter responses in the mids and highs, which will be good for hours of continuous listening. You may sacrifice some detail, or clarity as you have pointed out.

Thank you.. i understand now

Hello guys...
I took demo for few speakers.. and i ended up buying polk audio t50 tower speakers... it was a moment decision cause i just liked the sound of it..

Anyway
Not i drove em with my old sony stereo amps..and inspite of trying all.. i cant get even average sound.. its very disappointing

So now although not the plan.. but i am forced to buy a stereo integrated amp. ..
In very budget range for now ..

I am thinking about chosing between
1) yamaha rs202.. 80 rms per channel at 8 ohms .. so good power .. but i don't know about its sound quality

2) marantz pm5005 - obvious choice for audio quality.. but less power 40rms at 8ohms .. ( some people have told me that power is not enough to drive my speakers)

Help me chose.. i would love all kind of opinions ...

( do not consider streaming criteris..cause i am gonna get seperate dac and streamer anyway.. i have decided raspberry pi 4 with allo signature with schiit modi 3 dac.. just waiting for availability)

any inputs?

You can consider Dali Zensor 7 as a beginner. You can check with other forum members also about Dali Zensor. I am selling mine. If interested then let me know

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
