Hello all!!!

After a long long wait I finally bought WD TV Live.. Currently I have few HD movies downloaded on to my desktop internal HDD. I have connected my WD TV live and CPU with an Ethernet cable directly (without any router). When I go to WD TV LIVE setting and chose the option to do automatic setting, it says that unable to detect the network. I also tried to enter the IP address, Subnet mask manually. But still it did not help me anyway. Please suggest if I am missing anything here.

Regards

Set your ipaddresses to something like this.
Desktop -
Turn off ipv6
ipaddress 192.168.50.1
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway - leave empty
DNS - no

WDTV
ipaddress - 192.168.50.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.50.1
dns 192.168.50.1

once set, run ping 192.168.50.2 command from desktop and see if you are able to get any response back.

Thanks for your quick response.
In my computer TCP/IP properties I see that it is currently set for dynamic IP (obtain IP automatically).

So in this case what should be my WD TV network configuration should look like..?

When any network is set to get ipaddress automatically, then you need to have a DHCP server running. A wireless router does that.
Since in this case, you are directly connecting the WDTV to the computer, there is no DHCP server to assign the ipaddress to any of these. So, your best bet is to use a static ip on both like suggested earlier.

Thanks manoj. I tried with static IP as you suggested earlier. it works. But with that my internet does not work.

Incase your desktop is connected to your Net.. how are you connecting to internet with the desktop,.,.,
If u r using DSL then you can't set yr ip address to 192.168.50.1

Do you have an always on net connection or dial up connection?

I'm sharing my desktop and laptop using a lan cable and i have enabled the obtain IP automatically option and still gets internet. I'm using a dialer to dial the broadband connection.

I have Always On net connection of TATA Indicom with the modem Zyxel p-600.

I also have another modem of UTSTARCOM WA3002G4 (has 4 ethernet and 1 wifi) which was configured for BSNL broadband. I could not configure it fr TATAINDICOM and use it as mdem + router.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
