Help me to find Wi-Fi Streaming Player(No internet TV )

Hi All,

I am planning to buy Streaming media player with wifi.

My budget is Max 6000 INR

Expectations

1) Video Quality 720P is fine
2) Internet TV features(Like NetFlix) "NOT"needed
3) DLNA Support(stream media from my laptop/Android phone)
4) Basic internet browsing and Youtube
5) Good Audio DAC (24 bit - 192khz )
6) Optional : USB, Optical Digital In.


Please give suggestions.

before I say anything let me tell you one thing from my personal experience - for streaming HD video when WiFi works its a delight but when it doesn't its pain *******, WIFi is never reliable, though it depends upon distance,barriers, router 802.11 g/n,access points etc.

I have been using ASUS HDP R3 to stream 720p/1080p films. During last few months experience I found 9 out of 10 times it worked flawlessly, but sometimes video stops, lags........

at the price you have quoted you won't get a robust media player rest aside WiFi

1.ASUS HDP R3 is versatile for file formats, has WIFi, sloppy interface, crappy remote
2. WD TV live is not that versatile in handling file formats, no WIFi, provision for USB WiFi Dongle, super interface and simple remote

3. Popcorn hour players are excellent in all respect, some of them can be converted into a jukebox by adding a BD drive, that means you will have a near HTPC

my only suggestion is if you are planning for using a media player for seeing loads of 720p/1080p films for years without issues, buy any of these and a 11n router

If possible don't try for WiFi streaming, buy good quality USB hub and connect all the USB drives in it to the player, no need for router, computer and so on

you will get coaxial and/or optical from a good quality media player, but those are for adding meaningless feature, I never understood what a 1080p media player has to do with coaxial port!!

Don't even think of using it as DAC for music, if you need quality sound get a decent standalone DAC, quite a few like ODAC,SMSL,FIIO are VFM, do some justice to Norge 1000, its a superb AMP at that price, I myself use one

why the need of wifi..and straeming logic..
get asus o play mini and buy a 1 tb storage...
save and play...if you have real fast net..use it to dl..why streaming..
full control in your hand...also your pc is not disturbed..let it do the dl etc...
if you alraedy have storage..
get better player wiythin 6k or higher..many are there..like already suggested..

well this is my opinion..others may differ.

Few Reasons I need WIfi streaming

1) I want to stream audio from any wifi enabled device(laptop(mostly) /Phone /Tab). This is my Important requirement.

2) I can use HDD media players for Videos but I don't want to keep multiple devices if only one device can do the task. Hence I am ok with Wifi streaming only for audio and HDD connectivity feature for video, in same device.


I hope you all understood my requirement.

Network Streaming is definitely cool feature. But wi-fi is completely un-reliable. HD videos (Particularly 1080p) stutter. Skipping video sometime results in hanging of the player (it depends on player). If your usage will be mostly on 700MB to 1.5gb video files, wi-fi streaming will work for you without much hassle.

@ jeyaraj : I dont need 1080p streaming. Non HD video is ok for me for me.


I just expect good audio quality(if possible 24bit -192khz DAC). As I am going to use this device mostly for music.

After doing some reading on internet forums I came to know that ,
not many digital media players have good DAC(Please let me know if it is correct). And I may have to increase my budget to 9-10 K.
Any comments on Xstreamer and WDTV live audio quality for this.


One other possible option now I am thinking is having dedicated VFM DAC
and any low budget streaming media player with Digital audio out.
