Help needed for home theatre

I have onkyo TXSR304e with samsung 40 LA550, with pioneer dvd
I want to buy new dvd player so that it will have HDMI port
with upscaling
Only trouble is that onkyo does not have HDMI ports
Is it possible for me to connect DVD player directly to tv thru HDMI & audio output from DVD player to onkyo thru optical output?
Will i get sound output or no?

Hi,

You can directly connect DVDp like pio610 to LCD via HDMI.
same time you can either choice HDMI audio out to get sound from TV or only video out through HDMI & sound via coax output to Onkyo.

This has been answered many times before, but here it goes again.

Yes, you can connect the DVD Player directly to the TV through any method including HDMI, and then connect the DVD Player with a separate audio cable to the AVR. The audio cable could be digital such as Optical or coaxial, or analogue such as a RCA cable. You will get sound from the speakers processed by the AVR.

You will also get sound on the TV. So you must keep the TV on mute.
