Am making arrangements to wall clad TV wall with natural stone(Not entirely, 12 x 8 ft portion) and below the TV, am proposing an open glass rack. Its just a pair of glass sheets(12mm toughened/tinted or frosted) projecting from the stones, whereby their clampings will be hidden. The spacing between the 2 layers would be 1.5-2ft and each sheet would be around 6ft wide and having a depth of 20inches.

Will this idea work?? Any suggestions to make this a tad better would be highly appreciated.

Thanx and regards

If equipments are heavy, keeping a glass sheet in continuous stress will not be good idea. Reinforcing it's sides with brackets or increasing thickness is ok I guess.

But must say will look good.

^^Thanx a lot bro....nothing too heavy, maybe the AVR and a gaming console in one, and an HTPC and set top box on the other, thats all.

Or

All these in one and a center speaker on the top layer.

Hope the layers can accommodate this 30-35kg.Will be providing 3-4 reinforcements without interfering with the looks.

Regards

Personally I believe as beauty of the glass design is transparency, so reinforcement should done with minimal opaque materials. For ex. small C or L type bracket like this..

^^yup exactly, have already told him about my intention to have it appear like the stands are projecting from the tiles, completely hiding the holding materials/railings. The glass would be either tinted or frosted.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
