Hi, my Onkyo receiver keeps going into protect mode. I got it repaired atleats 3 times in the past 3 months. The service center guy suggested that I get my speakers and wiring checked. I did that and got the entire wiring replaced. I am still facing this issue. Can you suggest what needs to be done. Is it old age? (the receiver is 5 years old). I need some help on this urgently as it is frustrating to take it to the service center every now and then.

I think its some Bose speakers u r pairing with the AVR ,right?Whats their Impedance rating? If its 4 ohm or so, that might be the reason.

Also, how often does this happen, only when driven very high or randomly? This can happen when the speaker wires are touching the AVR body and thus shorting it out.So, try connecting each speaker at a time making sure there aren't any stray wire strands and let us know.

Yes. These are Bose speakers. Impedance rating is 4 to 8 ohms. I have 301s in the front, VCS-10 center and acoustimass 5 series in the surround. Receiver specs are 8 ohms- 100 watt per channel.

The first time this happened was in January this year. Thereafter, it was fine till August and since then this has happened the third time. I got the VCS-10 in January last year, 301s in September last year, and acoustimass very recently (in september). So, I am not sure if it is related to the speakers, as I had disconnected the 301s when it went down the second time, and replaced the surrounds before it went down now. Basically, it goes down with all different combinations.

I even got the wires replaced.

The service center guy told me that it is a problem with the DSP.. not sure if he is trying to fool me. Bottomline is that Onkyo is not able to fix this problem for me.

Please help!

Taking it to the service center today.. It is just not turning on. Goes into protect mode as soon as I switch it on.. i am taking my speakers along, so they can check compatibility.

Finally, I think I resolved the issue. I took my receiver to a shop in NOIDA- Top Gizmos. The guy showed me how to test my speakers. I did so after returning home. My center channel (VCS-10) was the problem. I will get this fixed and hopefully, my problem will be resolved.

hey could you please share with us how you checked your speakers.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
