Hi, Have a Denon 3801 AVR and is connected to a 5.1. Now want to buy a pair of floor standers. Would be great if someone could help me figure out which would be the best for this receiver. Have checked Wharfedale (9.6 9.7,10.6,10.7), Polk audio(A5,A7), KEF (C5,C5,Q500) and they all pretty much sound the same though am slightly inclined to KEF. Have a velodyne CHT-10 Sub and my use if for music and movies (projection)as well.
Budget to spend is about 45K

Hi,

I am working on a similar budget as you for a pair of FS. I can share my opinion based on my reads and auditions:

  1. Best ones heard so far are MA BR6 and Klipsch RF52 (however, heard RF52 on a stereo amp and I would be using an AVR so would need to listen on an AVR). BR6 (outgoing model) can be found for ~51K, RF52 for 48K
  2. Paradigm's Monitor 7 v6 are reasonably good, can be had for 38k
  3. Heard Tannoy v4, Wharfedale 9.5 and 9.6. Found 9.6 to be better of the lot. 9.6 available for 36k (I think so)
  4. Also heard MA RX6 and while they are good, beyond the current budget of 45-50k. They retail for more than 70k

Looking forward to listening to PSB Image T5 and Dali Lektor series. I am guessing T5s would be close to what I would want. But can't say for sure till I audition.

cheers

Hi, Havnt heard the MA BR6 or Klipsch RF52 and planning tomorrow,, though am not sure where i could find Klipsch in Bangalore. Thanks
I would bet on Wharfedale 10.6 compared to 9.5/9.6.

I still would love to know if anyone is aware of which fronts work best with Denon AVR (3801)

Bud,

For Kilpsch, you may visit Cinebels on Lavelle Road who are the authorized dealers. And visit Modern World in Domlur for better deals :)

I have not heard Wharf 10.6 but have heard 9.6. I have heard/read opinions which says 9.6s are better than 10.6s. For now, let's treat that as heresay :)

Denon's are supposed to warm AVRs and can be paired with bright speakers safely. Wharfedales are typically warm speakers, so not sure if the whole combo will sound too mild (if that is the right term). It may also be that I have come to like slightly bright speakers !

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
