Hello Folks, ,
Need help in setting up my Boston Acoustics asw650 sub for movies. My Dali Zensor 5 fronts can go as low as 43hz,zensor 1 at 53hz and Dali Vokal at 43hz.I have a few doubts since there are various conflicting opinions in the web,so have come back to our forum members.
1.In my amp should i assign the front speakers as SMALL or LARGE?
2.I have set the CROSSOVER at 80HZ for all speakers in the amp.Should i make any changes?
3.LPF to LFE is 120hz in the amp
4.In the sub Crossover is around 120hz and POLARITY is at 180
I value your suggestions a lot.

Please be more specific on your AVR. I would advice you to set the cross over for fronts & center to 60Hz/80hz .

You must set the fronts to small, when you have sub woofer on your HT set up

LPF for FLE is good

Set the polarity/Phase to 0 instead of 180

Hi Karthikeyan1234,

I use a Marantz with Quads and the Boston Sub ASW650. Set the speakers to Large. 80hz is good enough as a setting.

Make sure the bass setting on the AVR is LFE+MAIN.

Volume on ASW 650 should be in the centre and make LPF for LFE as 100hz.

Play some good bassy content in terms of music and check the sound quality. Accordingly trim the bass levels....it also depends on where and how you place the subwoofer.

Try out some movies...especially high velocity action types...Transformers / Fast & Furious etc.....see the effects and decide the levels + placement of the sub...

Remember it may take some amount of adjustments till you achieve satisfaction...took me almost a week trimming the levels and placement...now everything is perfect....I can throw any kind of music or movie and enjoy excellent performance with great quality.

Not sure about your comments above, Dali Zensor 5 is floor stander

HELPFUL HINT: The "Large" vs. "Small" designation has NOTHING to do with the physical size of your speakers! In AVR terms, Large vs. Small is only about bass management, i.e. telling the receiver whether or not you want to cut off bass frequencies below a specific point, and then "cross over" or "hand off" the low frequencies to your subwoofer. As a general rule, if you have a subwoofer, SET EVERYTHING TO "SMALL"! Even if you have big, floorstanding front speakers, you subwoofer will do a better job reproducing the lowest frequencies.
