Hi,

I have been browsing through hifivision for 2 months now, I need help and suggestions in finalizing a Speaker system. My budget is 40K, I will be using 60:40 (music:movies). Please suggest me a good AVR and Floor standing speakers to start with. I will add components like center, rear and woofer one by one later.
I was using Jamo A102 Music system it had, 2 A102 satellite speakers, 1 Sub 200 and 1 receiver , I was happy with its move as well as music quality. I had bought it in Dubai for AED 1200, a rock bottom price as it was a discontinued model.

Thanks in advance

If you are ready to use the existing A102s as surrounds and the Sub200 as a sub, you can buy matching speakers from Jamo itself and set a up a full 5.1 quickly. The Jamo guys will be best to tell you which speakers to match with the A102s and Sub 200.

Also see of you can increase the budget a little. You have to look at an AVR with some 100 watts per channel. This itself will cost you 40K.

Cheers

Thanks a lot Venkat, I had forgotten to mention the jamo system is yet to arrive from Dubai, I have lost the system in the cargo transit. So I will have to start the system from the beginning. You are right I was checking the prices of AVRs a decent 5.1 is costing close to 40k (my inclination is towards Denon, suggest me if there are better ones), I will look at extending my budget.
After your reply and my research, I have planned like this, first to buy a good AVR and then choose the front standing or book shelf speakers.
Some basic queries (silly as it may seem, but you are the right person to answer me)
Will a 2 channel AVR support the jamo C605 speakers?
Please advise me if I should buy a 2 channel AVR or a 5 channel one. Can I upgrade to a 5 channel AVR later if I buy a 2 channel one now?

Thanks again

Cheers

There is no such thing as a 2 channel AVR. An AVR comes as a 5.1, 7.1, 7.2, 9.2, 11.1. 11.2 and so on. The minimum is a 5.1.

If you are referring to an 2.0 amp, what you are meaning is a two channel receiver. This cannot be upgraded to a AVR. If you use a 2.0 receiver, you can only use it to power the front Left and Right speakers of an HT setup.

Onkyo avr (starting from TX-SR 608 and higher series) is good for music and movie if your ratio is 60:40.
You can always play 2ch music in pure audio or direct modes that bypass the receiver's dsp settings. Or you have a choice of playing in stereo modes with/without subwoofers.

Venkat - Thanks for the info, I am improving on that, I was mentioning 2.1.

Where can I find/have auditions for the following in Bangalore (if possible approximate prices)
Denon 1910 with Wharfdale speakers
Norge 1000 with Mission M35

In addition to the above combination what else I will have to buy to play my Music Cds, Movie DVDs and music from my I-Pod

Thanks

Hi,

Please visit ProFx at MG Road. They are selling some stock clearance and demo pieces at a better bargain.

Thanks
Venkat

Venkat,

Thanks a lot for your replies and patience with my turnaround of things, I have just received my Jamo system:yahoo: (6 months after I booked in the cargo in Dubai:o). I have one problem the RCA cable plug for Sub pre out is broken.

I had been to Cinebels on Millers road, Bangalore; I got a shabby treatment  once they came to know that I already have a music system and was there only for a cable. I work in the building opposite to cinebels.

Venkat can you tell where I can get the RCA cable for the Sub (Jamo SUB 250) in Bangalore, i want to use the right RCA cable for the Sub. I still have the budget to upgrade my system. I will have to work fresh again to upgrade the existing system. Can you tell me a place where I can meet with a dealer/person who deals with Jamo systems

Cheers

Rightly said Ravin, My experience with TX-SR608 is fantastic, I have been using it from past 3 months and is really good for both movies and music, finally the over all performance depends on the choice of quality speakers too.

Charankumar, you may plan a good HT system in phase manner but better to go for quality speaker set gradually. You may even eye on Polk Audio RTi A7 or A5 or Acoustic Energy speakers for quality sound. For budget but really good speakers just for once you may experience Crystal Acoustics at Audio Video Choice in Bangalore (Home) They come with THX Select rating and sounds really good (I am saying becaue I am using it). The approx cost will around 90K for 5.1 setup (all speakers are THX rated, I am not crazy for THX rating but just sharing with you, as whether to go for THX or not will be a different issue, that needs focus on couple of other factors too)

Jamo is good but at times I have felt that it gives more boomy and loud effect rather than clear sound except in several upper range. in AVRs, Denon is good more for music but I found it costly compared to Onkyo by feature and performance both. (Only problem with Onkyo is it gets heated after continuous use, that's it)
All The Best....

Charan,

You can get RCA cables in MX branded stores in SP Road alternatively you can buy from ebay also....

Go thru your manual which RCA cable model number and search online you will find tons of them. Also Amarbir hifivision dealer is authorised to MX cables you can contact him see if he can ship you a cable...

All,

Please suggest an AVR within a budget of 40k. For the first few months I will use with the existing Jamo A102 satellites and Jamo SUB 250.

Will I get a NAD within my budget. Ideally I would like to complete the HT set-up in 3 months after buying the AVR with a pair of BS. I am keen on Monitor Audio Silver RX1 / Dali Ikon 2.

Keeping this in mind suggest an avr inclined more towards Music and a little bit of movies. Thanks in advance

Cheers
