Hey guys,

So, very new to projectors myself, have done a fair bit of reading but seem to get more confused by the minute! Would appreciate some guidance on the same!

Just ordered an Optoma HD25E with a relative from the states. Got a really good deall actually - $709 plus taxes. With a $50 gift card included for free, so essentially a price of $659. Should be arriving on the 28th and I'm very excited / already planning on how to set it up.

Room

Sadly, I don't have a home theater room or space to convert one into just that. I was wanting to put it in my bedroom to replace my TV (my main usage would be sports, gaming and movies, so I think it'd work).

The room is 16.5 ft x 11 ft (roughly). It had big windows on one side which have good blinds on them so light can be limited to a decent degree. I was planning on putting a retractable screen on the top of the windows which slides down over them when I want to watch something.

I can put the projector on the other side of the room (on the wall, have place and a power socket available there) or on the ceiling. Which would you suggest?

Screen

Most importantly, what size / type of screen would you recommend? This is where I'm most confused about the whole thing! Would be happy to provide pictures / any other details to help get an idea. I'm based in New Delhi - any place I could get good screens? Any brands you would recommend. Don't have a huge budget left so whatever is good/affordable would be great.

Cables

I would need about 10m HDMI cables maximum.. What quality should I look to get? And how much should I expect these to cost me?

Thanks a lot for your help / comments!

Hi

For projector fixing distances and optimum screen size, etc, please check
Projection Calculator Pro - Projector to Screen Distance

enter your projector detail and it will give you all the required detail. Further apart from electrical power, the projector will also require a video input signal cable (HDMI) from the source. Keep in mind that the bottom of the screen should be around 24" from the floor level otherwise viewing for a long time will be uncomfortable.

Thanks :)

Yup, had run the calcs already. Will make sure it's atleast 24" from the bottom.

Curious, is there a minimum viewing distance from the projector? Had a couple of bean bags / low seating about 6-8 feet from the screen, would that be too uncomfortable?

Also, any recommendations on the type of screen? (biggest doubt for me right now).

Hi Chief can u pl guide for power also .if u purchase from USA it comes with universal power or u have to purchase some converter pl help.
Sorry shiv.

Importing PJ from abroad is risky as there is no warranty for India. If it works fine for a year (usual warranty period) than it is OK otherwise repair will be very expensive- defeating the cost advantage.

Thanks for prompt reply but there is a huge price difference compare to local purchase I have ordered the same from Amazon and it is costing 63k compare to local it's available at +100k.
Just missed on power part if u can guide me wil be really thankful to u.pl help.

By power if you mean 110V / 230V, than I am not sure about it. Mostly it will be 110V but please check amazon / PJ manufacturer website to confirm.

No problem poppy.

Can easily find a voltage converter here though - doesn't cost much at all.

Any inputs for screens? Any decent brands one can get?

I am not aware about the dealers in Delhi. However, in Mumbai it is available at this place. Call them to compare the price and delivery charges.

Depending upon your viewing distance / ceiling fan position, your screen may require some black colour band on top of the screen (in my case it is 24") so that you don't have to look "up" while watching which may give you a pain in the neck. Also if the ceiling fan is in direct line with the projector beam then fan will disturb the image hence the viewing area (white) of the screen need to be clear of that but at the same time maintaining 24" from the floor. So based on this criteria, your screen size needs to be decided.

I bought my 106" motorized screen from this agency with a 24" black bend at the top. They delivered in 3-4 days and have been using it everyday for about 2 hours for the past three weeks. I paid Rs. 22,000/- + Rs. 500/- for taxi transportation.

Can u suggest some Brand of voltage converter and where to purchase if possible.

Most likely your projector will work on 110-250 V, the Benq 1070 does. I would suggest you use one of your walls as the first screen and then take it from there. A large number of people are very happy using a wall as the screen. You should invest in a dedicated UPS though.

I agree with VKirti for his suggestion about trying out a wall as a screen till things settle down. I also did the same initially. Just see that the wall is white / light cream in colour and has reasonably smooth finish. I am not sure about the dedicated UPS for the PJ. Better to have a surge protector which is compact and can be easily fixed on the ceiling, closer to the PJ - or install the surge protector (with 6-8 sockets) near the AVR/set top box etc and along with the HDMI cable, run a 3 core 1 sq.mm power cable from the PJ to this surge protector. Thus all the AV equipment shall be covered.

Correct me u mean to say I should connect to the power switch and it will work no need for any kind of coverter. For screen ordered grandview 106" was worried on Power part.

In absence of any operating voltage confirmation, I suggest you wait till you get the PJ in your hand. Check the voltage specs and than take the necessary action. Even if it is 110V, you still have to provide a 230V supply to the 230/110V adaptor. So you can make a provision for 230V 5A switch socket near the projector location.

optoma projectors H 25e comes with voltage range from 110 v - 240 V . you would not require a step down converter.
