HK AVR 255 software updation

Hi,

I have Harman Kardon AVR 255 receiver with HKTS 11b speakers.

As per I HK I have to update software of my receiver.

Anybody can clear my following doubts.

1. can I switch on my receiver without connecting the speakers to it.

Is it safe to switch on the receiver without connecting the its speakers?

2. can I update the software of my receiver without connecting the speakers to it.
