Completely new to audio video world and first post to this forum:
I have this setup:
-dedicated room Length 13.5 ft x Height 9.5 ft x width 9.5 ft
- HD20 projector bought from US
- Planning to buy Yamaha 367 receiver and 270 speakers (basic setup)
- Viewing distance is 12 ft. so planning to have a 100 inch dia screen
- Audio improvement - need help here to cheaply (10k) improve accoustics. One idea i hv got from this forum is using egg crates at ceiling (thanks)
Since the width is small, need some idea to improve accoustics there.
- Plan to get a thick carpet

Egg crates are useless. You can make your own fiberglass panels which are the most cost effective way to enhance acoustics in your room.

If you can place your seating so that the listeners' ears are 4.5 feet from the back wall (9 feet from the front wall), then you will get smoother frequency response (fewer peaks & dips at 1/3rd of room length). Also, if you can place the L/R speakers 19 inches in from the side walls and place the subwoofer at the centre line of the room, you'll be able to knock out a couple of dips in the frequency response.

Plan to get a thick carpet

Thick padding under the carpet will help more (acoustically) than thick carpet itself.

That gives you a 33 degree viewing angle, which isn't very immersive. Would you consider creating a false wall a couple feet away from the front wall of the room?

I have done this.

With the padding it adds more comfort too while moving around.

Great advice from others here.
2 cents from my experience -
1. I have 120" screen that i watch from 12 feet away - it is great immersive experience. Dont settle for less would be my advice.
2. If you can, pls paint the inner walls and ceiling in dark color. The light reflections from screen will make the room very bright.
3. If you cannot do acoustic treatment, put as much furniture as possible - book racks, corner stands, a thick couch, thick curtains over any windows AND very importantly a thick carpet/rug.
