How Musical Are You?

Just took this online test and found it pretty interesting:

https://ssl.bbc.co.uk/labuk/experiments/musicality/

Perhaps, one could use the results to determine what needs upgrading: your system or your ears! :)

Completly agree with you, and minor upgrade fever is caught via eyes too, "MY NEW HT SET-UP", "World's best Stereo receiver for the year","FOR SALE: 2 years used excellent speakers for for sale at 50%",Mint condition Vintage amps and so
all these factors affects me atleast certain extent.

When i get attracted for some post as listed above, My current set-up is sounding like crap\Old:clapping:

When i dont have fund\some reviews are negative for these stuffs, then My current turn heaven back to me?

Does this problem (Eyes\Mind)only to me?

Just now, I don't have time to take that test, but there's another somewhere on the net on which I got a decidedly average score. Well, at least it wasn't bad!

You can get a lot of information about your ears, your room, and your system from the various tests at Audio Tests, Test Tones and Tone Generators - Online and Free.. In particular, you can discover what the actual dynamic range you can hear, in your room, with your gear, is, as well as basic stuff like audible frequency ranges. It might bust a few myths, but, above all, it is fun and insructive. I'd advise against visiting the site unless you have an hour to spare!

The test is about how well your brain understands the pitches, scales, harmony, rhythm etc.

This has got NOTHING to do with the ear sensitivity. Poor gear sounds irritating to sensitive ears.
Whether you are musically trained or not.

Similarly even if you have the musical knack, your ears may not be sensitive enough to feel a certain sound/tone irritating (unless it is out of scale).

Yes, I agree absolutely. Enjoying music has nothing to do with the ability to make music, or even to understand it. Apparently there are very, very few people in the world who are actually tone deaf, just as there are very, very few who have perfect pitch. Even those few who are tone-deaf can appreciate rhythm.

However, most of us probably have at least a passing in interest beyond the many levels of musical enjoyment. This might be even more true of those of us who never had any actual musical instruction. So we can do stuff like this (I haven't, yet) as much for fun as anything else.

After completion of the test,I came to understand,it's for proffessionals and not for casual music listners. Thanks!

Lemme guess ... you failed the test! :ohyeah: :ohyeah::ohyeah::D

What come on tell us the trrrruth and nothing but the truth! ;)

I took the test too and the results were strange.....I got over 90% on most of the catagories (which perhaps is to be expected as I was a pianist when I was little....a long time ago) but 34% on emotional involvement !!
Yes, I don't play music to get into or out of a certain mood. I listen to music rather intensely and seriously ...for the music....so I am not sure where the emotion comes into it. That is until I am suddenly overwhelmed with some un-explainable beauty that puts me at a loss for words... and close to tears!

not sure where someone got the idea this was for pros only. there's just one part of the exercise that tests musical perception, and it's not technical. else i would've failed miserably as i have absolutely no musical training :)

thad hit the nail on the head when he said it was purely a fun exercise. below is a screenshot of my score. it accurately depicts my fear of singing in public with a 'fail' in social creativity :)
