i Bought a Samsung TV whose sound O/P is 2.1 and i have connect this output to Onkyo Receiver (5.1) through Digital Optical Audio Cable. I'm not getting 5.1 output from TV channels and i could find signal and clarity drop on the HT speakers. which i could differentiate while i connect USB directly to the Receiver and play MP3 songs. could you please suggest ?? and suggest me best Digital Optical Audio Cable (TOSLINK) to connect from Samsung TV to Onkyo Receiver.

Hi, to get 5.1 from the TV, the source should contain a 5.1 soundtrack. If you plug in a HDD containing a movie with 6 channel sound, then you would get the 5.1 sound from your avr. If you have DTH, then currently, 6 channel sound is provided by DTH providers on 'some HD' channels only. Also, in this case, you would need to connect your STB to the avr or tv using the optical or hdmi cable (in case of airtel, 5.1 is only available through optical).

However, you can still use PLII on your receiver, which converts the stereo sound from your tv to 5.1. It is not as good as a original 5.1 source, but it is still more enjoyable that normal stereo.
