how to power speakers without AVR

Hi..I am ordering a pair of tall boy speakers and hence two of my bookshelf speakers from my current setup will be freed up. I want to give it to my mom for her listening pleasure.

How do I get the sound from say tablet or a mobile into these speakers?

can something like the below work? whats the most cost effective way please?

If your answer is no..give me other options.

Also how can I use the Lepai amp in my 5.1 set up? most of my audio files are on my desktop which is connected through HDMI to my AVR..so how do I use this?

You're planning to use the multi-zone feature of your AVR to feed the other set of speakers? The back of your AVR does have Zone 2 output that you could technically feed into a small amp like you posted, or even this one that seems to be popular as well.

The thing to figure out is how you're going to make multizone work for you (especially wireless), and if the amp output is going to be sufficient for your bookshelves. the amp I posted has a much higher power output rating so that too is something to consider. You can do wireless over wifi - but you will also need a source (like Apple TV) that can accept audio from your tablet or mobile via wifi, and feed this second source into your AVR - which will then transmit it to your second system as Zone 2.

Thanks Arun. I actually do not want to use it as multizone....just standalone..hence wondering..if I dont have an AVR, what do I need to connect it to a mobile..so was wondering if the Amp would do the trick. thanks

You need to add a soundcard or USB dac with analogue out in your PC and connect that to stereo amp. Alternatively I think another option can be that you can use the zone 2 pre-out or DVR pre-out at the back of the AVR as inputs to speaker if you want to keep AVR to ON while playing the music in PC. Others please suggest

If you want to give it to your mom then just buy a stereo amp and you are good to go. The lepai should be sufficient but if you are looking for something to drive the rti a4 then go in for some amp with around 40-50wpc. I'm no expert in this and this is just what I feel

The simplest and cheapest (wired) option is to get a dock and attach your amp to the dock.

Or you could get a blutooth adapter.

Thanks everyone..I ordered the Lepai...let me see how it works before deciding on something more powerful. I have seen youtube videos where it is connected to a laptop and two speakers.... I am hoping a mobile or a tablet will do the same along with rti4
