After winning a Grammy, artists tend to release music that deviates stylistically from their own previous work, as well as from other artists in their genre. Nominees who lose do the opposite—their subsequent albums trend toward the mainstream.
 
I have stopped following the grammys for a long time now. It has gone commercial and is not a barometer for quality standards at all in music. More so in the recent years.

Interesting. Also conforms with Maslow’s hierarchy - once you secure your esteem needs, you tend to aim for self-actualisation. And probably vice versa, if you fail in achieving your esteem needs, you slip back to fortifying the belongingness.
