Hey guys...on lookout for a sub. Does anyone know what the prices of HSU or SVS subs are like and where are they available? Ones who own them where do you usually get it from, if not from here in India?

With HSU I am looking at HSU VTF 1, 2.
With SVS I am not yet sure what models would be appropriate.

My room is sized 12 x 14 x 10 for now. Have the option of creating a bigger room of the likes, 14 x 20 x 10 in a couple of years. No plans to upgrade then so would like to buy an appropriate sub now itself.

I am quite open to getting a good used sub too. Also open to suggestions on other good subs of the same likes.

Which sub dealer gives a better price? For instance, with receiver I found that in India you can get a much better deal with Marantz... while similar priced Denon / Onkyo amps were much more expensive. So if anyone has similar info on subwooofers kindly share.

Audire in Coimbatore used to sell Hsu, now they stopped and selling SVS instead.

The SVS should be about 26K. contact them for pricing.

Thanks.
Could you let me now which model of SVS are you referring to being priced at 26k?

I checked for 2 subs @ Audire. Price is crazy!
SB12 NSD --> 49K
PB12 Plus --> 108K

Through boderlinx, HSU VTF2 costs 42K. Price at HSU's website is 510$ ...~23K. Shipping weight is a killer here :(

Any suggestions what SVS sub would suffice for my acoustic environment (see post #1)

Thanks.

SB10 NSD.

I dont think SVS has high level speaker inputs and not sure how well that will integrate for audiophile listening.

where is this available at this price? Audire? After bargain or before bargain price?
The website does not have this model.

Just email Sandeep. Before bargain.

Edit: I think my memory has played tricks on me. The SB10 is not available and its quoted price is 36K. Sorry to feed you misinformation. I was multitasking heavily when I posted that and imagined something I guess.

A good bargain is not when the seller reduces a few 1000 rupees from the price. A good bargain is actually when a seller strikes off Zero from the original price.

I was in this situation some time back and shortlisted 3 Subs

SVS PB12-NSD
Elemental Design A3-300
HSU Research VTF-3 MK3

SVS is available from Audire, but in March they said it PB12-NSD will be available after June and SVS site also mentioned that PB12-NSD will be available in June.
Later they changed it to Sep and now it is not even displayed.

Even though SB12-NSD is available I was interested in a ported Sub.
ED A3-300 requires a step down transformer, HSU VTF-3 MK3 can work at 240V also.

I almost decided to order HSU via shopyourworld, but some of the forum members suggested against it as it is very risky to bring a heavy sub in this way.

Finally I stretched my budget and bough SVS PB12 Plus. I am using a portion of my main hall for HT and the room size is (LxWxH) 32x12x10. I feel that PB12-Plus is a right choice for a room of this size.

For your current room SB12-NSD will do, but for the new room of bigger size a ported sub will be better if you like more bass.

I bought STF 2 from US. I wanted to bring the VTF series, since the packet size was so huge, I dropped that idea, instead settled for STF 2.

How much did it cost you? I presume u got this here in india itself.

What risks did you see in shipping a sub after buying internet direct? You mentioned that you ditched the idea of shipping a heavy sub.

How did you get this from the US?

I am currently exploring the option of getting either of the following 3 subs...
Rythmik FV12
Epik Legend
HSU Vtf2-Mk3

Also trying to find out the price of SVS PC12-NSD DSP... cylindrical sub.

I bought it from Audire India @ 105000/-

SVS PC12-NSD DSP price offered to me was 55800/-

VTF-3 MK3 weighs around 45Kg and shipping+taxes are more than the Sub cost.

Also in case of issues for warranty support I will have to send it to USA.
I felt sending the Sub to Audire will be better than shipping to US.

Moreover when I asked about HSU subs to Audire, they said there were more failures of HSU subs and we stopped supply of the same. I don't know how much is true, but I decided on SVS as I felt that SVS is slightly better than HSU.

How much do you think I can bargain here? Do you think I can bring it down to about 40-45k? Cos I dont want to spend more than that. :D. And it looks like he has a 10% off - offer. But this was supposed to be for first 100 customers now more than 300 and offer is still on.

For me service is not an issue as I can get it fixed myself. Price is of only concern :D. As for the HSU stuff, i understand he (Audire) had an issue with HSU, as HSU apparently wanted the whole sub shipped back for repairs which would have turned out to be expensive. But, the story of 30% failure rate...seems too fishy as HSU, 'would not be *HSU*' if this were to be true! You would have read about this all over the many forums out there and they would have ripped apart HSU and the sales would be damn low as most of the guys on these forums wont rate this stuff high unless they are really good and highly reliable. So the 30% failure rate... if you ask me...something is seriously missing!!
HSU's are highly rated for quality & are highly reliable.

I was told the same thing and for the reasons you think, I too could not believe it entirely.

Anyways the SB-12NSD for 46.8K looks the most affordable with local shipping and vat all inclusive and with immediate delivery without customs hassle.

+1 to gobble

if your budget is 40-45k, SB12-NSD can be considered. You may try to negotiate for PC12-NSD, if they are coming down to 45k go for it.

Delivery is immediate, you may even get it on next day.

Other points mentioned by gobble also valid - like shipping, VAT, duties, 1 year warranty all inclusive and no customs hassles, delivery is with insurance.

I think the rythmik would be a step up in sound quality ... Ive read on many forums where people have upgraded from an svs and find the rythmik to be more musical/tighter with better transient response and less lag of sound in matching with main speakers.

hey...in fact the FV12 is currently on top of my list. But I am not sure if they have dealers in India? Do you have any info if I can buy these from in India...dealers or non dealers?

I was just discussing with one other friend who was mentioning the servo subs are a bit different to the conventional ones in the sense that the amps design is a bit different, hence if we do import and run into problems they may not be *that straightforward* in repairing. Other than that, apparently this is a one of the best choices and sounds really gr8 for music & movies both...in this price range. :)

I don't think there is an Indian dealer but they do have a malayasia dealer, maybe he will ship to india. Go to the rythmik website and shoot them an email, they will let you know.

Rythmik also sells the subs as diy kit. The kit includes the amp, driver and plans to build it. You can order it from the US site and get it shipped to India. Then have it built as per the plans. This will reduce the shipping cost a lot.
