HT Setup in Living Room - Odd Dimensions

Hello,

I am planning to setup my home theater system (5.1 channel) in my living room. The room dimensions are as per the diagram below.

I want to put the TV on WALL-A, but in that arrangement I am not getting the right place to put the rear speakers. If I make the sitting near WALL-B and place the speakers on the wall, the viewing distance is very high.


I want to limit the viewing distance to 10-12 feet maximum (42 inch LCD TV).






The main purpose of HT setup is to watch movies.

Please suggest me some ways to place the rear speakers.

you could use speaker stands for the satellite speakers. to conceal the wiring, you can do full carpeting of the floor.

Ignore the dining area completely. Assume that it is a separate room enclosed by walls and your hall is rectangular with the said dimensions. For surround speakers, I would suggest satellite cubes that are installed on the ceiling pointing inwards to the sofa/listening post.

You should use concealed wiring as suggested above. While the carpet will definitely help in absorbing sound and preventing reflections, you will have to judge on:

- damages and spills
- maintenance and cleaning
- dust collection and mites
- heat collection and dissipation in the summers
- the carpet, if used to hide the wires, will have to be wall to wall, including dining

Overall, I don't recommend this for a common place such as a living room.

With a 42" display, I wouldn't sit more than 8-10 feet away.

For a 5.1 set-up, put the surrounds to the sides of the seating (right surround might end up above balcony door). For a 7.1 set-up, add another pair of surrounds behind you.

Thanks a lot guys for your response. Also attaching some samples that I did for the furniture placement in the room.

a few points,

1. The TV is not exactly in the middle of the Wall-A. It is a little towards right on the wall.
2. The room will have 2 virtual sections. The Wall-B will have a book case and a reading chair.
3. the placement for front speakers and center speakers is not an issue as these are a straight fit on the wall with the TV.


For Rear speakers I am thinking of 2 options.

1. Placing the speakers on Wall-B along side book case. the book case does not exist yet so the height, angle for the speakers can be decided and book case design can be slightly modified to accommodate those. However, my concern is that the rear speakers will be too far off from the listening position, i.e. the large sofa seats.

2. I place the right rear speaker on the wall above Balcony door, and place the left speaker on the wall in front of that, however in that case the speaker placement looses the symmetry. The left rear will be much far as compared to Right rear.

Carpeting or rear speaker stands is not acceptable to wifey due to small kids at home.

Option 1 means, I can take the wiring through Balcony , by drilling the wall near TV for OUT and near book case for IN. so no messy wires in the room.

Option 2 means, wiring for left rear will be difficult.

SUB-WOOFER: Still not able to finalize on its location. What points in the room should I consider for this.

Also, What should be the maximum length of the rear speaker wires.

Please throw some ideas.
