Ideal Speakers for Ayon Spark 3?

ATC are power hungery speakers and will not be compatiable with SET. With SET amp you must have speakers which are 97+db.
There is a big big role of Pre-amplifier. If your Pre-amplifier gives you sufficient gain, it is possible to drive speakers like ATC, Harbeth etc with medium powered SET amplifiers.
I drive my Harbeth 40.2 with Audio note Tube amplifier (211 tube). It is a mesmerizing combo. Yes I use a high gain tube Pre-amplifier. I have tried them in rooms bigger than decent sized rooms and it works.
But I have never tried them in 40 ft x40 ft sized rooms.
With low gain Pre-amplifier, it struggles a lot and it becomes evident in the music presentation.

A high-gain preamp just pushes the power amp into full output sooner. So the system will sounds louder at a lower volume knob position. But, you reach distortion earlier and your headroom is reduced. So you are not getting “more power”. You are just getting earlier overload. You will hear clipping sooner. Also high gain amplifies everything including signal and noise. Going beyond the correct gain in a preamplfier is not a very wise thing to do. If you have a low gain preamp, then raising it to normal usually helps. A system approach usually tells you what gain is appropriate for any given system.

@square_wave Absolutely. I've created a line preamp with a gain of about 20 dB, which is excessive for most modern power amplifiers. Therefore, I'm constructing a unity-gain amplifier to match it.

The Ayon Spark 3, which has a gain of around 12 dB, it's relatively low in the tube audio realm. It can even be powered by a DAC. @Analogous As mentioned, consider the Klipsch RP series, which is decent if you're looking to save money. Many high-efficiency speakers tend to be quite pricey.

Very true. After having the Audio Note amplifier in the system, the previous Pre-amplifier I had in my system was not driving the speakers properly and I had to upgrade my Pre-amplifier. After the upgrade, 20 Watts output Audio Note amplifiers are driving 87 dB sensitivity speakers easily. Hence there is a significant role played by the Pre-amplifier.

Hi,
A friend of mine recently bought an Ayon Spark 3 Single Ended Triode Tube amplifier. He is searching for a good pair of speakers for them, preferably good bookshelf speakers. If anybody has previous experience with the amplifier, would you kindly recommend a good pair of speakers for him?
Thanks in Advance,
Agasthya
I have personally heard Wharfedale Lintons driven by GM70 power amplifier (15 Watts output). Dac used was Denafrips Ares12th Dac and a 6SN7 based Tube Pre-amplifier. It was typical british sound and very pleasing one. We spent close to about 5 hours listening to music. There was no hint of fatigueness in the system. Amplifiers had a good control on the speakers.
