After 3-4 years of experimenting with several amps ranging from INR 10k to INR 10 lakhs, i have finally zeroed in on the INR 10k amp.

It’s the Denon UD M31 which i like best in my system and for my listening tastes.

Yesterday Satyaki had come over for a long listening session. He felt it was the best music session he’s ever had at my place.

So for now my search for an amp ends.

An old parable: If Christopher Columbus had been a quiz enthusiast of his time, he would have kept repeating the earth was flat and would never have tried to sail west in his quest to find a route to India

In a hobby like audio which is highly subjective, one needs to keep experimenting till one finds what one likes.

For nearly 6-7 years, I kept experimenting with Denon and even though i liked it every time i heard, my brain would not accept that a INR 10000 amp could sound better than a more expensive tube amp.

But in the last week I finally gave in and worked a bit on better ways of connecting the speaker wire to the Denon binding posts and also played around a bit with speaker placement to get the sound to my liking.

David Karmeli introduced me to Denon UD M31. He goes by ddk on whatsbestforum. He uses it with a variety of high end vintage speakers from TAD to Diatone to JBL in his secondary system.

Recently RomytheCat was extremely impressed with it saying the only other amp that did this kind of magic was the original LAMM ML2. He uses it with a Klipsch plus Vitavox combo.

Ken Kessler too spoke of it very highly way back when it was introduced in early 2000. He had demoed it with Wilson Audio

It’s easily available on eBay. Costs like USD 100 - 200, depending on condition. It also has a cd player and tuner built in.
