Invention Audio

Invention Audio is a "problematic" case.

I first met Sandeep at the first Bangalore shows and was impressed with his bookshelf setup. In my book it was one of the best rooms at the show. A few years later he showcased a Kaiser Kawero knock off that was good but had issues with bass in the room as many shows do. My next interaction was at Munich 2017 where he displayed a similar/same setup but this time got a lot of positive feedback from show visitors. In short the guy knows good sound and has gained exposure over the years.

The problem with Invention Audio for me has been in their pricing - especially after Munich. His reference setup at the Bangalore show was about 6L which itself was high. But after his Munich showing he pushed up prices into the 30L level. The issue here is that at this price level there needs to be substantial build quality and brand equity. I think this is where Invention Audio has simply fudged their approach by increasing the prices, in an effort perhaps, to be taken seriously. I fully understand that they have a right to do whatever they want with their pricing. But one can only look at the other thread to see what happens,

The issue of Sandeep's overly aggressive behaviour especially in defense of his products has been a real problem. He is extremely pushy with his products and has crossed the line on several occasions on the forum. I must say that he is polite and knowledgeable in person and has been nothing but cordial with me at all times. However, when things go wrong he needs to keep his behaviour in check. He gets emotionally riled up and berating people like he did with Sid has no excuse. This is the part where he clearly crosses the line and has no defense whatsoever. I can only hope that with time he learns to be more balanced emotionally.

It has been a long post but I hope that it gives some perspective on Invention Audio. Nobody wants to see damage done to a small business. There are a lot of difficulties faced by small businesses especially in a fragile space like audio. But serious mistakes have been made. I can only hope that this is a learning experience for them.

@Nikhil A nice and balanced view..
But for a company that has invested so much on the marketing side to demo in such high level international shows, their website is surprisingly bland with zero details.

Definitely an area of concern and something Invention Audio needs to work on

As a new company entering high end audio, you can’t be seen selling both power conditioners and speakers. You start wondering if these guys are power specialists or are they speaker guys. You’ve got to establish one line before even thinking of getting into another. I don’t think any power conditioner company makes speakers :)

@Nikil . I concur with your balanced viewpoint. Most of it is experienced by me on many conversations with Sandeep. Hope he learns and corrects himself.

I sincerely advise him to take commercial forum membership to update us on his products and company initiatives.

I have heard invention audio system (they made the speakers and DAC, not sure if the amps. were made by them) only once in the Bangalore What hi/fi show. Don't know if it was the room but the system to my ears sounded very bass heavy and one-notey and most of the details were obscured in the bass boom. Their pricing level is also totally ludicrous (price gouging actually), and that alone prevents me from even considering their products, and combined with their scary, super aggressive solicitation/marketing tactics and casual criticism of other higher end brands (like Pass Labs), I don't want to have to deal with them ever. Also I wonder what prevents them from paying a bit of money to take a legitimate commercial sponsorship in the forum rather than doing back door, illegitimate deals through proxy memberships and trying to get (forcing would be a better term here) reviews - and keep getting banned. For a company which can go and exhibit in Munich, and exhibit in What Hi fi shows, this should be nothing. In fact all this type of suspicious behaviour is actually counterproductive which creates or has already created a negative aura around this company.
There are other Indian brands otoh like Eight audio, Acoustic portrait etc., which have good pricing, polite customer interface, great products and a proper strategy, and I would be considering these brands in the future.
Cheers,
Sid
