Is Hdcp 2.3 backward compatible?

Is Hdcp 2.3 version backward compatible with Hdcp 2.2? I have p2897 nvidia shield Pro and planning to buy lx304 amplifier.
 
HDCP 2.3 is backward compatible with 2.2 where as HDCP 2.2 is not backward compatible with previous versions.
