Is thx certification really worth.

The Short answer - NO

The long answer - Lucasfilm (that owns the THX brand) is George Lucas's company that certifies products as matching certain (undisclosed) parameters that they have set, for quality audio and home theater performance. Manufacturers can submit their products to him and they will test it and give it a certificate if it matches their standards. The manufacturer would have paid a fee to them for doing this testing, and will have to pay a license fee to use the THX certified stamp. From the list of components that have received the certification it is apparent that their threshold standards are not extremely high, but are definitely an assurance that you are not getting rubbish. However, all THX certified products will logically cost more than products of comparable standard that have not opted for certification, as the certification is expensive business. Therefore, if you're looking for value and are prepared to put in some research and testing before you buy your audio/HT products...it's probably best to avoid THX. If you don't want to do any research, and just want to go and grab something and be sure you're not getting a dud, then you can go and buy a THX certified product.
