Best wishes on your HT project. Would love to see the pics once you complete it.
I ended up sharing the plan with a friend who was visiting from the US.. he suggested me things which made me think.. and hence, I have made changes to the original plan..
1. I have decided NOT to go for adding wooden panels and filling up with glasswool. This is the biggest change I have made. This was always an expensive thing to go for. If I start with the soundproofing and end up feeling it has made my room dead, I can never go back and recover my investment. I can always add later as and when required. The room has no windows and hence the only thing that I should really concentrate on is sealing the door - may be even adding two doors. This is not the final shape of the room, if at all I do end up feeling the sound isn't good.. or the room needs more dampening.. I can always add traps/panels at reflection points later. The idea is to start with the minimum and advance as you go along.
2. In the last week, I have had labours to make cutouts on the walls so the wiring can be done internally.
3. For the walls, I have decided to cover 8-10mm MDF sheets with cloth
5. The A/c will be mounted on the rear wall.
6. Color scheme - I am still unsure, but so far.. have thought of going for:
1. side and rear wall - bottom half dark grey - upper half cherry red/maroon
2. False ceiling - Dark Grey
3. Remainder of the celing (the not false ceiling part) - Cherry Red.
4. Carpet - Red color
7. Lighting - 8-10 spot lights on the false ceiling and led strip running on the inner side of false ceiling.
2. The carpet has average thickness what you would see in a multiplex. For now, this is the only thing in the room that will do the work of sound absorption.
3. The door is where I have taken a risk. I have gone for soundproof doors. I will report its effectiveness after it is installed.
4. All wirings (electrical, speaker wire and HDMI) are done. Eight 3W LED spotlights have been installed.
While I do understand that the wooden panelling and glasswool was 'the thing' to do, however it was simply out of my budget. For the room of my size it was costing 2 L and upwards and hence I had to drop the idea.
The Acoustics are not being ignored at the point. For that, I will go with a 'need-based' approach. To start with the carpet is doing all the work required. Based on the performance, I would identify a few months later how many panels need to be added.
AC unfortunately could not be done some where in the middle of the room because of poor room planning on my part. Some corrections are doable, unfortunately this wasnt.
The sound proof door is a single piece thick door. It will be installed tomorrw, more on after its installed.
The dimmer option is not done at this time, again due to cost cutting. This is a new house that we have moved in and hence there have been many more expenses than just the HT that I had to bear. Hence, my budget has taken a HIT. Hopefully, this is something I can look at in the future.
Yeah Kittu!! Jitu has pimped it up with all those reddish pink interiors (Read as looking good. Not bling, just right) bean bags. Ain't it?Eargasm and Eyegasm both![]()
