Dear FMs,
I have a decent Stereo Hifi Setup with a Streamer DAC, Floorstanders and integrated amplifier. A Friend of mine a hobby singer wanted to show his singing skills in my setup during a weekend party.

Me being a non singer, never thought of this situation to arise.
So I need help from Fellow hifi singing Enthusiasts about how to setup a basic Karaoke System with Decent Quality mic etc.

I have a IPad Pro 2021 and a Windows 10 laptop, and a budget of 50k(the lesser the better due to very occasional usage) set aside for this purpose. I am running a Roon Server which displays lyrics for popular songs if available. Karaoke is basically for old Bollywood, Pop and Kannada songs.

What's the best possible configuration options available, which good quality mic (preferably wireless), which console or eq mixer and software etc? Kindly share your experience if anyone is currently using a Karaoke Setup.
If possible, I intend to use my current setup of Denafrips Terminator DAC, Gryphon Diablo Integrated Amplifier and Atc SCM 40 v2 Speakers for Ocassional karaoke setup as well.
Thanks

Hi karthick 🙂🙂..

I saw plenty of Mike's with a wireless transmitter + 3.5 /6.5 mm headphone jack wireless receiver combo. Most AVR's have at least a 3.5mm plug in jack at the front. This should be the easiest way to do it. Not to mention the cheapest way, considering the very rare usage. Unless your friend is a really good singer and warrants investing 50k 🤣

Not the question of mic per se, (Quality Mic Recommendation is important but most importantly) what mixer/software should be used so that the vocal frequency in the track can be substituted seemlessly with our singer friend voice while keeping the background score unaffected.
Getting karaoke track version for all songs is impossible.

So ideally I Need a software where lyrics can be read from ipad pro and sung into a mic connected to a mixer or PC which takes input from streaming service, substitutes the vocal track of the song with friends voice while keeping the background music intact & then gives output to Terminator DAC or Analog Outputs to Integrated Amplifier.

Something Pretty Cheap like this are available but I'm unsure about the quality and reliability

Hey doc, just wanted to share my two cents. Don't use your ATC speakers or any other home stereo speakers for karaoke parties. Home stereo speakers are typically not designed for the high volume and extended use that is common in karaoke and microphone applications. This could lead to the speakers getting damaged or even burned out drivers due to the stress placed on them.

Instead, go for some good quality PA active monitors, even a single channel one will do, and pair it with a small PA mixer from trusted brands like Ahuja, Behringer, or Yamaha, etc. You'll also need a wireless or wired condenser/dynamic microphone, and a couple of lavalier microphones to complete the setup (For instruments and ease of use mainly).

This way, you can have a dedicated karaoke system where you don't have to worry about your drivers getting burnt.

Here are some products you can check out to get an idea (I'm not sure how good these are):

1. Active PA speaker: https://amzn.eu/d/2JWaWGm
2. Bluetooth PA mixer: https://amzn.eu/d/iPmIvfn
3. Wired microphone for vocals: https://amzn.eu/d/4PYjoAV
4. Wireless microphone/lavalier set: https://amzn.eu/d/aIDPNX8

Regarding, the live singing app case, there are plenty of options available on playstore/appstore. Or you can use full fledged audio editing softwares/DAWs, but which will be an overkill and may not be very practical.

You can use multiple AI based solutions like https://www.lalal.ai/ or https://vocalremover.org/ or https://moises.ai/ (this one have an apple/android app) for getting a decent vocal-removed track from a song.

I think iOS apps such as Garageband also have this vocal suppression feature.
