Anyone on the forum is using the KEF LS 50 speakers? If so, I would appreciate some feedback on your experience.

I dont own it, but we had demo in chennai hfv 2013 meet, where profx got these small beauties. Sounds amazing but costs 1L, which I am not sure whether worth that much.

What were the partnering electronics at the demo?

It was connected to denon 720 stereo amp. Profx played music from cd playeelr and also from laptop.

I also attended the same meet and I felt KEF Q300 was a much better "value for money" product compared to the LS50. I felt KEF Q300's bass extension was a tad bit better compared to the LS50.
I am not saying that the clarity and mids of Q300 is better than LS50. But if you consider value for money, its hard to beat KEF Q300 in that price range. I ended up buying 2 pairs of KEF Q300 and 2 pairs for KEF Q100 for my 7.1 HT room and I feel the Q300 shines for Indian movies where you have lots of music and Q300 is a better "musical" speaker.

I agree with kef q300 as VFM( I also own it, but single pair ), but I felt ls50 in different league comparing the size n performance.
@John: offtopic, I know you are using kefq300 as front(1+1) and as center(3rd) also, so what you did with the 4th one??

Good question.. its still wrapped in the original box and kept as a spare
. ProFx only sell them in pairs

The reason I started this thread is because I am trying to upgrade to new speakers for my Peachtree Decco 65 amp. Right now I am using it my Sonodyne Sonus 2605 FS which are so so, going a slightly smooth sound, with restrained dynamics.The bottom end is also a bit poor. They are anyway about 7 yrs old so time to change, I was using them with my old Marantz PM 6002 which is now mothballed. Last week I had the opportunity to hear the Peachtree with the PMC 20. 23s and all I can say is wow! We had a 4 hour audition and no ear fatigue at all. All this using my old Marantz CD 5001 as source. I imagine that an upgraded source would further improve the sound. I would unhesitatingly go for the PMCs if it wasn't for the astronomical price! They are high priced even in the UK!

You are looking for floor standers or bookshelves?
It might be worthwhile auditioning Kef Q700 or Q900 in case you want floor standing speakers.
You might want to check focals. sometime back PRofx in Bangalore had Focals Floor standers at attractive price, you may check if they still something of Focals.

Thanks Amit, but I am not sure if the amps 65 watts RMS would be enough for for the Kef Q700 or Q 900. Guess i will have to audition both.

Have you heard these speakers? How would you describe their sound staging, depth, detail, mids, timing?

Room is about 12x22, would LS 50 suffice? Or better go for FS.With my present Sonus 2605, I find the low end a bit lacking.
maybe you have already tried it..but insufficient bass can also be due to placement OR due to the amp not being able to supply the high current needed by the woofers for lower frequencies and hence all the harmonics do not come across well making it sound as loose/missing bass etc
Again there are BS's which have more authority than FS and vice versa depending on driver size/volume and topology. 12x22 is a reasonably large room but since its length is unusually more than the breadth, you do not have too many placement options...i wojld suppose a BS would do very well. But looking at the specs of LS50 , you will miss their bass as they have a -3db point just around 80..even with wall reinforcement you may will miss the Bass.
Also Do you have the option of pulling out the speakers into 1/3rd of the room length or are you constrained to put it near any of the walls ?
BTW if the peachtree has a pre out..why not active speakers ?

12x22 is a reasonably big room. If the 2605 is lacking, the LS50 will definitely feel bass shy

I have tried various positions including closer to the wall. The bass becomes more prominent but also boomier. In any case I have heard the 2605s for nearly 7 years and am in the mood to upgrade.
The present position of the speakers are in the center or the longer wall, about 8 feet apart, aligned along the breadth, ie the distance from the speaker to the listener is about 11-12 feet. I have tried to keep a gap of about 2 feet between the wall and speaker, but it comes to close to the listener. And my home minister wants to keep the speakers closer to the wall so they don't give the room a cluttered look!:lol:
I did try the Peachtree with Genelac actives, got a clean clinical sound, heard it for a short while, def better than the 2605s. But if I wanted actives I would have gone for a DAC+preamp.
One option is to add a power amp to the preouts, any good suggestions?
