Kef ls 50

Have you heard these speakers? How would you describe their sound staging, depth, detail, mids, timing?

Hi, you asked me a difficult question.

I have heard KEF Q series floor standers, but dont remeber the exact model number. I can tell you that i liked the speakers a lot they were well balanced. but i cannot explain in the parameters that you are looking at. I am not an audiophile, just have interest in good music.

I ve been been getting a lot of feedback on the Polk LSi9 BS. I know that Santy has extensively auditioned them and is very happy with the performance. In fact he told me that had he not got the Genelacs he might have gone for this. Anyone else here with some experience of the Lsi9? Also any suggestion on power amp additions to my Peachtree? If you like the KEF sound and like to explore more, try auditioning KEF R-300. Again a super performer, almost in the same price range as LS 50.

KEF R300 will have a lot more bass authority and wider soundstage than the LS50. If possible then do a A-B comparison. Profx may have them both for demo.

The Q900 can be easily driven by a 65w amp. It does need something slightly on the warmer side.

The LS50 is a great speaker but very demanding on partnering equipment. Also, wont do well in a large room.

I have listened to LS50 , nice speakers like the BBC minimonitor ,in addition to that it does imaging too , more seperation compared to the traditional ones , but i feel it lacks in richness in mids compared to old monitors . May be due to the amp pairing .

Your room size looks too big for these speakers , Listened in a acoustically treated room for HT , my feeling is that it should sound better in un-treated room .

I did a side by side comparsion of the Cabasse BS and LS50 , Cabasse sounded more colorful, vivid and sparking on the top , if you are after that kind-of sound . Also cabasse is cheaper.

LS50 requires powerful amp , lifeless when paired with Denon , it took almost like 30 mins for my Amp to sound good , it become litterally warm also which never happened in any other speaker that i paired with

FYI,
Docd got Epos M12i speakers a while back, so this thread atleast for him is redundant

Docd & I heard the LS50's before he got his Epos & concur on some of the points you've mentioned.
Which amp did you pair with the LS50's???

I really don't understand why spend more than 750 to buy a orrible to see little speaker like this with efficiency= 85 db and hope that it will sound like a normal sized and designed bookshelf or equivalent floorstand, like Mordaunt Aviano , B&W 685/684, Klipsch rf 52/62 and so on...( these all cost less, awesome look, construction quality and have more than 90 db of efficiency)...
just my 2 cents opinion...
