n yea cant tell if it does true hd(write nw just hooked up directly to the tv)

You can email to the manufacture OR need searching to know HDMI type.
Power DVD9 Ultra has opt in setting in preferences to select aud of HDMI(only in Vista).

i kno it has the option bt its nt available..i am using the ulta version..even the smart strech is greyd n i cant select it..n i find it a lil buggy also..in sm videos the sound only plays via my laptop n nt the tv..
do u use power dvd 9??

Yes,help says HDMI option is available/visible in Vista only.Are you using win Vista?

yes i am..home premium
gt the smart strech to work(playd sm othr video n it had the option)
bt still no hdmi..it works on 2 speaker mode..but i dnt y its insisting tht my current system setting is spdif..in the options this is in brackets like [current sysem setting][spdif]
n also the audio is playing via laptop in sm movies..its strangr actually,coz whn i play thm using power dvd 7.3 they play just fyn..could be due to the fact tht ffdshow sometimes opens up with power dvd 7.3 bt never with 9..
do u really get hdmi option 4 audio just by connecting to tv?
can u post a screen shot?

Well,I m using XP & no option for HDMI.
Secondly ,TV cannot decode HD-aud format,so you cant get sound.
TV can only decode few formats & may DD with only stereo mode.
Secondly if your HDMI is less than 1.3,it cannot pass HD-aud(5.1)

So I use different method-
