LED lights run on a 12V-volt battery?

I want a few of these 12V DC LED lighting strips, add my boat for night fishing. Do I have something between a 12V battery and the lights? (Next to a switch), regulate the current and damaging Or can I just wire it directly? I was on a car battery when it matters.

12V LEDs can be directly connected to 12V battery. If in doubt add a resistance in series to reduce brightness and current flow.
