Hello,

When we buy home theater system (separate Amp and speakers) it is very-much essential to match right impedance speaker with amp.

Like that do we need to match Power Sub-woofer as well?
Or it is not required because the sub-woofer has built-in amplifier.

What other factor to see while buying sub.

Thanks.

Technically matching is not required. But l have found that subwoofer sound matching with front speakers is important for getting uniformity.l had paired Polk sub with Tannoy speakers and it did not sound as one unit. But it matched with Cambridge audio S30 and Energy speakers in better way using same AVR.

Its important that for the subwoofer you buy has a complete variable phase control to adjust from 0 deg to 180 deg. This is because you need to match the phase of the front speakers with the subwoofer for the subwoofer to disappear in the setup of your room. This not only ensures tight bass and control but also overall gives a very good presentation to the music.

As per Spiro's observations, the setup which he had earlier could have suffered with the similar issue and having a phase control in your sub helps to balance out the phase errors. Some subs have only a phase switch of 0 deg and 180 deg and most times this is of no great use either. The right phase could be some where inbetween for the match.
