Looking for tips for restoring my Technics sl-1950 turntable

Good day, I recently took a renewed interest in my old Turntable that I thought was beyond repair. I purchased a stylus and hooked it up to my old Sony receiver and played a Rare Earth lp (Ecology) the song (I know I am losing you) and It sounded really really good. I am debating on should I let an experienced stereo guy work on it or should I work on calibrating it myself. I like DIY projects.
