I am new to this forum and much interested in music.

I am very interested in knowing every details of sound, learn and at the same time enjoying it. As a newbie, I am not planning to invest a large amount at the first time.

As a begining I wish to replace my computer speakers with a much more good quality system. I am bored of the computer speakers (Mercury 2.1 with 25 watt sub-woofer).

The room size is very small (10 ft X 9 ft).[ But I want to replace the computer speakers].

And my budget is below 12,000/-
and like to add a sub-woofer as early as possible.
By going through the posts, I think the Norge 2060 is suitable for me (if not advise me pls)
which is a 2 speaker out put. But how can I add a subwoofer?
Can I use the existing computer sub-woofer by first taking the computer output to mercury sub-woofer and then the speaker outputs of sub-woofer to the norge amplifier?

I think the norge amplifier costs around Rs 7000/-. Is there any bookshelfs which costs around 4000/-?
The outputs of norge is 80w. Which rating should I use for spekers? < 80W or >80W?
Which set of speakers comes to this range?(and the same price range?)

Is it better to use a sealed box speaker set better than the bass-reflex for my environment?[ as the room size is small and i like to use a subwoofer]

Give me a good advice.

First thing to do is - go to a good AV showroom. Tell them that you are looking for an audio setup for listening to audio CDs at a budget of Rs. 70000. Listen to whatever they demonstrate with keen ears. If you have good quality audio CDs, take them with you and ask them to play the tracks you list most. Remember use original CDs only and not mp3s or anything else downloaded from the net. Feel free to walk out of the shop without any guilt and tell them that you'll think about it. Try this for a couple of shops if you stay in any of the metros.

It's essential to know what's excellent equipment before deciding to buy something that's less expensive. You'll be able to make a better choice.

Thank u for the quick reply

But what are the Indian prizes?

I think the above mentioned components may cost Rs.25000/- average
I think I can use my computer for the input so there is no need of dvd drive at present.

And buy an amplifier for 80watts/channel
At the same time I shall make a DIV for the speakers?
Then what is the cost of each components (for the like components in Lithos noa1 etc.)
i.e price of drivers(woofer and tweetor), crossovers, etc?

Why dont you venture out in the lines of Altec Lansing, JBL, Klipsch. For 12K you have quite a few decent offerings from these products ......

I am in Kerala, Trivandrum
Sunil, I have the same Mercury active speakers that you have. Without expectation, i too had hooked it up once after I got my AVR. Trust me, you dont want to do it. Ditch it or keep it as a separate bedroom/desktop set up.
If you dont plan to spend in phases after the 8k you have alloted now, its better to go for an Altec lansing mx5021 or an equivalent from Logitech/edifier.
Else get an integrated amp and used passive speakers and forget the sub for now. But be assured that a middling quality active sub will cost your around 10k atleast.
What are you going to use to play the music- PC?

as a member has adviced i too would suggest an Audioengine A2

a 15k budget would probably get you norge millenium speakers and the 2060 amp ( this is a nice combination for the price - ive heard it)

Thank u for everybody for the valuable suggestions

A lot of information is there for me to analyse.

Thank u again for all!

Logitech Z2300

Even the Create 2.1 series performs better than the mercury. I have heard the speakers of altek lancing. One of my friends have bought one altek lancing 4 years ago - it costs 9800/- [a higher end than this one] But i didnt appear it pleasant. Though in the low end ( for punch etc,) for vocal sound it is not pleasant compared to at least the 2 in ones( It is the same for almost all types of home theatre systems having small speakers - like those of computers speakers). They appear to be sharp and clear but they actually loss something especially with male voice. I have checked it with a regular component speakers of my 2 in one with this one and my assumption was correct.
I think it may be because of the driver diafram size.

From the advices I think, it is better for me the Audio engine A2 (Indian price? - 10000/-?) and later add a subwoofer.
Since it is a passive speaker ( I want passive) with 15 watts rms, what is the amplifier specifications i use. What are the models? /or construct?

sunil,AFAIK,the audioengine's arent passive and thats the whole point to them.secondly for passive and in ur budget u could also check out the cambridge audio S30,mission M3xi series bookshelves.cheers

Hello everybody

I have reached a conclusion - For the computers use Audioengibe A5/A2

Also I like to use the Wharfedale series/Norge speakers with Norge 1000 amplifier - and later add a subwoofer.

But, as it requires pre-out for the subwoofer to connect, it is not possible( Norge above is a 2 way sterio amplifier). Also i think amplifiers with pre-amps may be very costly.

Can I assemble/DIY an amplifier with the parameters of the norge 1000 without much compensation in quality? And what about the price assembled?

In what class the audio aplifiers belong? Class A or AB (particularly norge)

Is this transister based or IC based? I have heard that transister based systems produce less noise.

If I do a DIY/Local assembly, which board and components should I use for acquiring the same parameters of the Norge 1000?

Sony 46 monolithic ex 700 led
Onkyo 807 receiver
Panasonic dp 60 blue ray player
Tannoy front F3 stand speakers with tannoy center speaker
Tannoy F1 surrounds
Velyodyne CHTQ 12 inch woofer
cabling all CHORD and hdmi cable also from CHORD.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
