Mac mini as media player?

Wanted to know if Mac mini can be used as a media player or HTPC? How about as Digital audio source if combined with an external DAC?

Have any body tried it as media player? What other components would be required - for example how do we get IR remote working? I guess XMBC is avaiable for OSx.

Let me know the pros and cons of such a setup.

hmm not sure if it outputs hi def audio over hdmi, I doubt. Also at this price point, mac doesn't have BR playback.
