I would be travelling to USA in couple of week and would like to purchase a media player. I already have WD media player which is couple of years old but it does not have wifi and I am facing some problems playing AAC and MP4 encoded files. Is there anything new that I can buy? My budget would be around 8K to 10K. Also I am looking to buy a 3D Blu-ray player. Is it worth to buy it from India or can I buy it in US? My budget for the blu ray player is around 10K.

You can consider Himedia Q5, it has all the features you are looking for ,i was quite satisfied with the demo i had yesterday, impressive part was you can connect keyboard and mouse and its read data smoothly & fast from 3tb hard drive, it also has inbuilt wifi, and the quoted price is 7.5k.

In addition as suggested in other threads sony bdp490 can play 80% of formats you can consider it as a option it full fills both of your requirements.

Does Himedia Q5 support all audio and video format? What is the difference between the Q5 and Q10? Seems like it could only support very few audio format.

As far as I can see, the Q10 is the more advanced version. It supports an internal HDD, has a cooling fan as well, has 1 Gbps Ethernet port.
I think the media playback features are the same.

Both may not be able to play 3D movies, but someone could correct me if I am wrong.

What is the price for both of them?

Hi,

As per my experience as a user, nothing as smooth as Himedia 900B

It supports all the formats and am using 2TB, no issues as such.

Am using extensively for photo gallery, songs, movies.

Thanks

Mathan: Get a Sony BDP5100 from Amazon, warehouse deals has it from 100$ to 125$ new. Excellent player and it can also do what 90% media player does. So get this player first and then decide if you still need a media player.

Ram: Thanks for the suggestion. As per all reviews I saw it seems like a very good 3D blu-ray player and also a media player. I think I shall check it out live in Best Buy at Manhattan if it is there.

Also if anyone has any hands on experience with this player please share it.

Best buy sells at 130 i think, amazon deals is 90 to 125. For hands on experience read posts in avforums in US as this model is not available in India yet.

Thanks for the suggestion. again the same silly question ! I had seen the specs and video. I have a few questions:

1. It specifies 120V ac and 60 Hz(not 110-240 Vac). can we use without any problem with the step down transformer? will 50 Hz operation will be a problem?

2. What about region code? Like in DVD's which are also released with region free or ALL regions will Blu ray's also available with all regions

3. Will it play Blu ripped files from external drive?

1. You need to use a step-down transformer and its should be fine

2. Blu ray and DVD is region locked to US. If you want region free you need to buy modded players. Its available in amazon itself and will be twice the price. Look at your collection and then decide if its worth buying region free

3. Depends on how you rip it. Check this thread in AVSforum on what it can play

Thanks you very much.

I was originally planning to buy a himedia 900 b (reason! cheap and advertises that it plays everything. I am willing to compromise with the startup troubles and bearish interface).

I see you have also a media setup. Can we play the blu ripped download files from "yify-torrents" or other similar sites from the media players ? Are they region encoded?

Thanks in advance
