Hi guys, I recently came across my MS Mezzo1 to have a dented metal tweeter in one of them. The font grille was still in perfect condition, but the metal tweeter inside it deformed like a dent (as if someone had pushed it with a finger and then replaced the front grille).

I contacted the local authorized dealer and they replaced it with a new tweeter. The other side remained in perfect condition.

Once back home, I got the speakers out of the car and to my surprise - one of the metal tweeter was dented again "hey bhagvaan yeh kya ho gaya".

The speakers were placed in the trunk of the car where I had carefully protected it from being scratched or moved around. How did it happen again when the front grille on the outer side is still in proper shape.

It seems that the metal tweeters are weak due to (not sure) inferior quality of material used, or defective tweeters, or an engineering flaw in designing and selecting the material? If the speakers were played continuously for liong durations at reasonable volume (say 40% of volume), wouldn't the speaker tweeters and midrange domes withstand the heat built up?

I have also inquired with Mordaunt Short this morning regarding the deformation of the metal tweeter and await their reply.

Can anyone suggest how the metal tweeter can deform so easily.

I can think of two or three reasons why this happens:

1. As you said, the quality of materials is very poor.
2. The tweeters were actually damaged before, and were pushed to look good. In this state, after a little while, the diaphragm could have collapsed again.
3. Since this is a metal tweeter, it is possible a strong magnetic force is making the metal bend.

Cheers

Thank you for your suggestion.

As I understand, the speakers are said to be magnetically shielded. But how much force (amplifier watts) or heat can they withstand. If it has dented by placing it in the trunk of the car and driving back home a hundred kilometres even without playing the speakers with the amplifier, what will happen if I play them at 12 o'clock or even greater volumes? Wouldn't they last long?

MS claim in their site that their " tweeters breathe" should therefore be able to dissipate heat built-up around the tweeter diaphragm. Let's wait and see what MS say about the deformation
