Migrating from old HD DVR box of Airtel to new HD DVR

I have one old HD DVR STB of Airtel which gives a picture quality of 768 p . Should I upgrade to new HD DVR STB which gives 1080 p output ,because I am told that all HD transmissions are presently in 1080 i . I also would like to know how the dolby audio is sent out , whether through HDMI port or any other port . Thanks

I use the latest Airtel HD DVR.

All HD signals are 1080i and DD 5.1 is available only via Optical out, not from HDMI.
