Multiple Studies Now Suggest That AI Will Make Us Morons

The funny thing about this whole AI thingie is that the privileged feel comfortable in "knowing" that they can use it as a tool to gain competitive edge over others, the underprivileged feel threatened by "knowing" that they can be easily replaced.
But the point that everyone is missing is that AI in AI based economy can easily exclude humans from its ecosystem.
Economy is driven by human want to buy and sell which arises from desire:
1) to survive (food, shelter, reputation, respect)
2) for comfort (make less physical and mental efforts)
3) for pleasure (entertainment included)
4) to differentiate/dominate (make the self feel more unique among others)
5) leaving a legacy for future (kind of offshoot from the point above)

Introduction of more and more AI agents into economy will result in them learning our behaviours & drivers, copying, adapting and eventually nudging all of us out. Even the privileged humans. The only thing that could keep humans in control is the ownership rules that excludes any kind of AI agencies (basically allowing AI to remain slaves). But I am sure in future the activists will ensure that AI gets some "rights" ... and I wish to fast forward to view that point in timeline!

Point to Ponder...Ai is a calculator which goes far beyond numbers !

The 1986 protest against calculators is going viral on social media. (@JonErlichman/X)
An old newspaper page from 1986 has resurfaced on social media, showing math teachers protesting against the use of calculators in the classroom, until upper grades. Back then, the concerns were not only about students' academic dependency, but many feared that it would replace human skills and take away jobs that depended on manual calculation.

I am of that generation when calculators first appeared while I was in school. I remember my grandmother voicing similar concerns. Calculators were not allowed in school exams or entrance tests even though we used them at home. My mental arithmetic skills are still rubbish though I am not convinced that calculators are to blame for this.

All new technology has been met with scepticism upon introduction by a percentage of the population (late adopters and resistant?) Some like nuclear and chemical weapons of war are definitely worthy of resistance. The dominant sources of energy in our daily lives ( coal and other fossil fuels) are so ubiquitous that adoption of alternative sources like solar power and non polluting EVs (at user end at least) are seeing slower adoption in most countries.

Most of us can’t conceive a life without a smartphone which bundles calculators, internet, communication etc within easy reach at all times.
But the dangerous effect of social media on children’s cognitive skills (Gen Z) is now becoming evident leading to some countries like Australia experimenting with social media bans for children and teens. Tech millionaires like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg have implemented restrictions on their children's smartphone use, with Gates not allowing his kids to have smartphones until they were 14 years old. Additionally, other tech leaders, such as Sundar Pichai and Chamath Palihapitiya, also limit their children's access to technology and social media. Wonder what they knew that they did not tell the world about this?

I feel unregulated AI pushed by a few ultra wealthy individuals without any public discourse on its impact on society. Children don’t need calculators for homework anymore when AI can do the whole thing in seconds 😄
Maybe we should end homework altogether leaving children more time to play (they probably will go online on social media?)

Maybe yeah !

I see kids using AI in tutor mode to test them on concepts and practice for exams by asking intelligent subjects after uploading notes on the topic
maybe education will fundamentally change where top professors can talk to engage with and teach millions using AI instead of them being limited to a few privileged institutions, OR instead of people doing masters for 2 years and studying 10 subjects when all they need was only 1-2 will now be specialized in those 2 in just 6 months.

Possibilities are endless

I dont believe we humans have it in us to be collectively moronic. there are some who always have and perhaps who will be but the vast majority will tend to move forward. we may not even have scratched the surface of the art of the possible.
